Default Ziplock Bag Omelettes

I haven't tried this way to cook the omelettes but it sounds easy especially if you have a crowd. It's from: http://www.scooterdiva.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1464

First thing you will need is a large pot of boiling water. Next a quart size freezer zip lock bag
Put your name on the bag with a permanent marker so it does not come off.
Everyone puts 2 eggs in their zip lock- shake it around to whip it up. Next have bowls of other ingredients ( peppers, onions, bacon, ham, sausage, mushrooms, cheese, etc). Everyone puts in their zip lock what they want to have in their omelet.
When everyone has their zip lock ready, squeeze the air out of it and put it in the boiling water (up to 6 per large pot) and boil for 13 minutes. After 13 minutes, take them out, hand them out to their owners, sit down and enjoy.

There is a huge thread on this subject if you dig. Ziplock company doesn't recomend doing this as the plastic can melt in the water.

I wonder if this is true or not... I found out about this recipe from a relative who got it from a relative. I asked where she got it and was told it is in a Paula Deen cookbook. If so, it would seem a big star like Paula Deen would not be promoting this. I'd like to know because it really does work great.

Yes, I did see the other thread down the page. I think there was a link to an extension service announcement. But I most definitely do not trust any extension service, what with the crap they echo from the status quo within health and medicine.

I'd be wary of this. There's so many chemicals in plastic that leach. Pthalates, BPA... ugh.

Ijust saw Paula Deen do it for a large breakfast and it worked just fine. I think I would worry as plastic is made with petrolium products and I know that plastic water bottles leach into the water, but if you don't do it all the time, think about the dirty dishes that you save. Thanks for posting this creaky cause its a great idea and so low carb.

Well, honestly, I can cook breakfast sausage (a big 32oz package), and a ton of scrambled eggs (like a dozen), and stick most of it in a cheap glad container in the fridge. Dump some on a plate and nuke it when I want more, toss on a little cheese. Works great, I do a minimum of cooking, it's instant, and for half a dozen meals I only had to cook once.

Freezer bags work great with this.
