It is a question that always stumps me.

This is actually a really important question that I've been asking myself a fair bit while putting the entire form together. Thanks for reminding me, Arielle.
To me it's not the occupation itself that matters, it's the possible implications and discussion ideas that can arise from the occupation given. For example, I work full-time in IT, so if I were to follow-up with myself, I would want to know more about total time spent behind screens, whether habits from work leak into my evenings at home, which could possibly have an impact on my sleep quality. And what sort of exercise do I get around what is likely a fairly sedentary role during the day?
For a stay-at-home parent, I might instinctively allow some discount in the exercise department with all the running around the house that parents naturally do across the day, but it might lead me to ask questions about stress and how they unwind.
There's a similar thought process behind most other questions as well. Knowing someone's physical address gives me an idea of their proximity to various existing food sources such as supermarkets, greengrocers, butchers, fast food outlets. Even ethnicity has some hidden value; some indigenous populations might be more genetically predisposed to weight gain, but with the right diet they may respond particularly well in return.
Gender on the other hand, is firstly just to make sure I get it right in future discussions. The person's name alone may not always give it away; is someone named Chris a male or female or neither? But the right combination of gender and age may also hint at possibilities such as menopause that can also be a factor.
Essentially, the answers I'm gathering from these questions are intended to work as conversation starters for future appointments. It doesn't need to be fully comprehensive as it's not the only step in the process, just the first step in that process.
