Red face Feeling Sluggish

This is week 5 for me - 16 pounds down and oodles of inches.

I'm basically still in induction - eating no additonal carbs exept those hidden or modest in foods (e.g., eggs, etc.). No particular reason - just the routine works for me.

Until now I've had like this boundless energy - hop of out bed wide awake at 4:00 am for aerobics. Of course I'm a morning person by nature.

However, the past few days I've been like crash and burn around mid afternoon. This is the first I've felt this particular way. I could fall asleep right here at my desk, and I've never felt this way before.

I sleep extremely well at night, and the next morning I'm a little spitfire of energy again!

Perhaps I need to add a little more carbs to my eating plan? I have no doubt I'm eating way below 20 right now. Perhaps I'm not eating enough calories? (I don' count calories or carbs.)

Any thoughts....?

Thanks!

Shirley

shirley, why don't you try tracking your meals at fitday.com. see how many carbs and calories you really are eating. maybe it is time to up your carb intake a little. dr. atkins advises 5g weekly. why don't you give it a try!

Good idea Debbie.

Also, Shirley .. Late afternoon fatigue, lack of energy and headachey, lethargic feeling is often a sign of low potassium. You can take extra potassium as a supplement, but easiest is to use a salt-substitute product such as NoSalt, Half Salt or Morton's Lite Salt, which contain potassium chloride. Use these just like regular salt, and they are fine to use in recipes and cooking too.

Are you eating enough protein? Minimum 60g per day. Are you having a mid-afternoon snack of some kind, a slice of cold meat, a boiled egg or piece of cheese? Some folks go all afternoon from noon until 6 without refueling .. .. What about a daily multi-vitamin and mineral supplement? It's important to keep up levels of the water soluble vitamins, especially the B-complex family ... these are lost in the urine daily, and must be replaced.

Well, those are just some thoughts. Maybe there's something there that will help...

Default Thanks for the ideas

I suspect that I'm not eating enough calories/protein. I don't have a mid-afternoon snack, cause I'm not hungry. Actually since beginning low carb eating, I find myself more with NO appetite. So I'm bad about just not eating.... I know, I know, not a good thing....

Taking daily vitamins and supplements, including potasium.

Eh, maybe I'm just having a bad week.

Have a good day, everyone! I know I will!
