Dawn Phenomenon
Hi,
I just started SP, I got both books and am beginning to see the error of my previous ways. Atkins actually does work when you want to lose weight but I feel that in using Atkins sporadically, I have totally messed up my metabolism. I spoke with my Diabetic Nutritionist and she agrees with my theory. I plan to stick with SP to see how I do, I feel it is really a healthy approach to controlling my Diabetes and I'm glad I wandered in here and found you all, especially, Dr. Schwarzbein!
My blood sugar levels are good, I have my hemogloben a1c tested every three months and it averages 6.3. I have been getting frustrated with what I see happening as the dawn phenomenon. The other night I tested my BG 2 hours after my bedtime dose of Metformin and it was 105, the next morning, it was 130. Argghhhhhh!
My doctor was happy with the HGA1C and said that I shouldn't worry about the high morning number so much because my BG is good the rest of the day.
Still, I would love to get that BG to stay down at night, I think it would make the HGA1C even better if it did. Anyone have any tricks to get rid of the dreaded DP? I am eating the 15 carb gram version but skipping the nightly snack because I think it affects my morning sugar readings.
Thanks.
