I now have my New Year's resolution - no more fried pork take out from the Filipino restaurant. My favorite too with all of the fat. No more eating out. I can do this. Fish oil supplements - become oxidated with time. Threw mine out.

Vegetable oil is worse for your body / organs than sugar and processed grains! Not even half way through this book and am captivated.

I like how she mentions Perlmutter's Grain Brain.

You can catch Purlmutter on PBS from time to time.

As for oils, I too got rid of those, too, last summer when I finally understood their health implication.

Recently heard recommendations to eliminate the high omega 6 oils too. Including grape oil. Oil options down to 3. Guy suggested using lard, tallow and butter. But no mention of the high omega 6 levels when animal is grain fed.

What oils are ok ?

Vegetable oil use to really throw me. What vegetables exactly have oils in them anyway?

Yes, I too got rid of all of the bad oils 10+ years ago, all bad stuff.

Two I didn't see mentioned, but are both fun reads and highly informative:

The Meat Fix by John Nicholson. He spent 26 years a vegan, getting fatter and sicker and more miserable. He turned it around with ONE meal of ox liver, and this book was written 18 months later. Lots of humor and clearly explained science of how he got fooled. Just reread it and enjoyed it again.

The Mood Cure by Julia Ross. Not low carb per se, but she does outline the beatdown carbs can give our brain, and how fluctuating blood sugar is implicated in all forms of mental health. A wonderful adjunct to people who found their moods improving on low carb, with suggestions that will let them build on that with targeted strategies.

Our library has a few of the "Cure" books by Julia Ross. Without the sugar and grains...her suggestions are moderate low carb. Mood Cure and DietCure were good. Meat Fix apaparently too "out-there" for the library.

EDIT: So as of 1/1, our library has merged purchase requests and InterLibrary Loans into one "Materials Request" and you are limited to 50 a year.
Huh...was that me that prompted them to put on a limit??

In addition...renewals are now limited to 2 (it was 9). Nine was a lot, but I would keep new keto recipe books for a while... but two is not enough either. That new rule might have also been me Hate Change.

You FIEND

My book consumption has always been high. What I do now is budget with online library apps. My subscriptions to Kindle Unlimited and Scribd are each the cost of ONE ebook a month. And I happily read a LOT more than that.

I can find what I want this way about 80% of the time, especially with audio books, which come out in a timely fashion with Scribd. (They just go slower than my reading speed, but then again, I find them enjoyable in the right circumstances.)

That, and ebooks at the local library which return themselves in a timely manner (hey, fines do support the library but I got traumatized by an angry librarian once and I had always been a "librarian's pet) and I can stoke my fires happily on a fixed amount per month.

Given that I'm attempting to eliminate many books from my home library, I need to check with my county library to see how I can borrow books that I can return. Last I checked, they had few of the books we've referenced, and I live in a large county. Janet's method is preferable in that I can always purchase the book for reference in digital or physical form after I've read it. Today, I'm gifting/donating/trashing many that I just don't need.

My library takes requests for library purchases.

Books donated but librarian feels is not needed goes in the sale.

WearBear. I do all of that too, but still like a "real paper book"...you know, too much Blue Light and all that stuff.

Our library has always taken purchase requests too...only now I'm limited to 50 a year.

Rob, I my library. I also have cards in two vacation spots, so have access to ebooks and e-audio books in three large systems, and the InterLibrary Loan system (if yours is a member) gives you all the other ones. If you want to read some textbook-like material, it may show up from the state's University system.

So back to books....a new book that should be in soon: Maria Emmerich's The Carnivore Cookbook. From recent podcasts (see the Carnivore thread) it appears there is a good sized section on the diet, health benefits, etc...it's not just recipes.

A friend from another forum (where we discuss LC/Keto/Carnivore/etc.) gifted me this just released book today - The Carnivore Code, Paul Saladino, MD, 2020. Can't wait to start!

I got a Kindle just so I can read myself to sleep, without bothering Mr WereBear. I also have those settings on my iPad/iPhone which remove the blue light as sunset approaches. I can tell the difference!

Bunkering in will give me a change to read more.

Not much choice now...all the libraries are shut down. Not taking holds, returns, etc. Only the IT people keeping the system lights on and listing digital offerings as available, esp. adding school materials.
