Default Salad Dressing

What kind of salad dressing do you think is best? I have light, which contains 60 calories and 1 carbs for 2 tbls, or regular which has 120-140 calories and 1 carb for 2 tbls. I actually like the light better. I'd never bought the particular flavor of the regular dressing and have found that it is not very tasty. What should I do? I know people say not to count calories, but I'm trying to stay around 1500.

The best kind of salad dressing is one you make yourself - that way you know what's in it!

Try mixing cider vinegar, lemon juice, olive oil, a litttle mustard, water and one sweetener together. This will give a classical dressing that cost very little and is low carb.

If the light contains sugar, then stay away from it. Try oil and vinegar.

Yes, the light contains sugar, but so does the regular. I'm not in to making my own. I know that some carbs are acceptable. Itonly contains a small amount of sugar. It's not like most light or fat free dressings. I think there's more vinegar and water, which leads to less fat and calories. That's why it's light, not because it has fillers like most do.

I use the regular Hidden Valley Ranch. 1 carb 1 sugar. I try never to use dressing that has more than 1 sugar in it. It has never been an issuewith the weight loss. I also use the Ken's dressings - they are pretty low carb as well.

If you're following Atkins' program, the recommendation is to choose salad dressings with no more than one or two grams carb per serving. So if you prefer the taste of the "light", and it's within that carb limit, then you should be ok as long as you keep an eye on the serving size. What many folks do is stretch it out by mixing 1 Tbsp bottled dressing with 1 Tbsp olive or other oil for their salad. The oil adds zero carbs, and provides good fat. I wouldn't be concerned about the calories, except to make sure that you're getting enough. Low-carb is not low-calorie.

hth,

Doreen

I know the calorie debate has gone through this forum. Do you think 1500 is OK? I know I would ened more to maintain, but I'd like to lose. This should be OK for keeping my metabolism going, right?
