Cool My Mission for Muscle

Well....

I choose April 1st to begin my gym log...interesting!

I hope that doing so will assist me in being more consistent with my exercise routine. I really need it for several reasons...
1. Health/Fitness
2. Stress Reduction (I am currently supervising 18 staff
members who are fighting like mad but all behind each
others backs. Unusual for them and very frustrating!)
3. Weight Loss
4. Fun
5. Input

So here goes!

April 1, 2002

Ski Machine with resistance - 30 minutes; average 4.5 miles per
hour for 1.75 miles.

April 2, 2002

Bowflex Weight Lifting - 40 minutes; 2 sets of 12 reps to failure
of each exercise.

1. Shoulder Press - 50#
2. Leg Press - 120# ? (Can't remember for sure, will check)
3. Bench Press - 50#
4. Lat Press - 60#
5. Lat Pull Down - 60#
6. Leg Curl - 60#
7. Leg Extension - 60#
8. Chest Fly's - 40#
9. Biceps Curl - 50#
10. Resisted Ab Crunch - 60#
11. Seated Rows - 30#

2 for 2!

Opps! I did make myself take measurements but then I posted them only in my journal. Here they are>

I began the Atkins Diet on 2/4/02 at 187 pounds and a solid size 14. My goal is 135 pounds and a size 8.

On 4/1/02 I weighed 175 pounds a was an easy size 12. I finally took my measurements:

Left: Right:
Wrist: 6 1/2" Wrist: 6 1/2"
Upper Arm: 12 1/2" Upper Arm: 12 1/2"
Thigh: 25" Thigh: 25 1/2"
Calf: 15 1/2" Calf: 16"

Waist: 34"
Hips: 40"
Chest: 40"

I am not sure yet of measurement goals... I will have to think about this one.

4/3/02 & 4/4/02

Have fallen off the exercise wagon for two days...other than caring for my two sons ages 3 and 6. Strep throat has hit our family four for four. All pretty sick and miserable. Hope to jump back on the wagon today (4/5/02) or tommorrow (4/6/02).

Suprisingly, I really do miss it!

No exercise! Not good, but everyone still fighting Strep throat.

Everyone starting to feel better. Weather quite nice. Walked 1.5 miles.

Really do enjoy the weightlifting. I am considering getting home equipement so that I can be more consistent and extensive in my workouts. Currently the equipement is at my office and I work a 4 day week and live 40 miles from my office. Will see if $$$ is do-able. I have a cardio machine (ski machine) at home but really do prefer weights and from reading various posts, looks like this is what I should focus on. Besides I want arms and legs with definition again!

Worked out hard, complete failure on second set. Corrected weight for Seated Rows. I am curious that I do not get sore like I used to many years ago lifting free weights even though I am working to failure?!

4/9/02

Walked 2 miles, 40 minutes, 3 mph, outside. Beautiful evening!

I am a little sore between my shoulder blades from last nights workout I assume. Still it is a "different kind of sore than I remember". Not sure if this is due to Bowflex vs. free weights or an aging issue. I have yet to experience what I would call the old muscle soreness or muscle fatigue in exercised muscles?????

Really looking for a reason not to work out tonight...my head hurts...my sinus' are bad...WHINE - WHINE - WHINE. But I did make myself do it anyway. YAH!!!

Worked out very hard, little rest, felt like cardio, heart rate in the 70% zone. Did have a headache at the beginning that went away and then came back briefly twice...odd. Very tired, not sleeping well last week which is unusual for me, I am going to bed very early tonight.

Default Time to Regroup

Well this week has brought the death of a beloved friend and co-worker from a brain tumor. This has brought to a head all of the stress and turmoil I have been working with over the last two weeks. I have been doing ok with the exercise and diet I as I try to deal with all that is happening. I have decided to take a break from until Monday to get my mind, body, and spirit back on track. Not a drastic detour, just not consume myself with how I am or am not eating or exercising right now.

But come Monday, I am going to be back, in every sense of the word. LC, Exercise, Attitude, etc., etc.!

Already posted this information in my journal but thought I would post it here so I did not appear to have fallen off the face of the earth!

My plan to get back on track on Monday did not go as planned as I recieved a call from my elderly parents that my father had some complications in being cleared (cardiac) for a prostrate surgery as he has 2 100% occlusions and was being considered for a 3rd open heart surgery. This was complicated by the fact that I live 1000 miles away from my parents and also by the fact that 3 years ago my mother suffered a devastating brain stem stroke which left her in a physical condition requiring total care which has been occuring in the home with personal aids and care by my father. I will not go into all the details, but safe to say very stressfull trying to get home to make sure my mother was taken care of, making arrangements for my children and husband and work.

Well, at this time I am still in Montana with my parents but plan on being home on Wednesday. I can not wait to see my kids and family. I am working on arrangements to move my parents to South Dakota where it will be easier for me to care for them.

Needless to say, WOE and exercise have been far down on my list of priorities though I am happy to say I have not gone into any stress eating binges as I would have done in the past so that is still progress in my book.

As soon as I get home I plan to hit my WOE and exercise plan with new found vigor. Through all of the recent health issues with my parents, I have found added determination to make my health a priority. One very enlightening factor shared with me by my father's cardiac surgeon really got my attention and made the importance of health and proper nutrition take on a whole new meaning...EVERY POUND OF EXTRA FAT A PERSON HAS REQUIRES ONE MILE OF BLOOD VESSELS TO SUPPORT IT. So if I have 50 more pounds to lose that means I will have 50 miles of blood vessels that can be providing support and nourishment to other vital parts of my body. Not the fat!

Wow, what an eye opener!

Looking forward to getting back to this WOL and this forum.

I am back home and soooooo glad.

I have been researching Body for Life and I plan on starting my first challenge as soon as I can purchase a multi-station home gym. (If anyone has reccomendations for brand and model I would love to hear them.) I work four days a week and need to be able to work out at home to follow this program. The Body For Life before and after pictures and success stories are very inspirational!

It is nice to be back. Looking forward to catching up!
