I take something called Estrosense. It took 2 months and all my PCOS symptoms were gone.
I tried to stay away from the Dr because their solution was to use estrogen therapy in the form of birth control - which exasperates the problem in the long run - regardless of being overweight or not. You do not need to be overweight to have PCOS.
It is linked with having insulin resistance - because of being in an estrogen dominant environment (your body).
The great thing about losing weight though, is that it reduces the amount of estrogen in your body (because fat is loaded with estrogen), the down part is, your liver filters all this estrogen and if it doesn't get cleaned out from time to time, can get plugged up with estrogen and since the liver also metabolizes the thyroid hormone, if its plugged up it can't, so the thyroid slows down function because the liver sends out "word" that it needs to slow down or it will quit functioning. So the thyroid slows down.. and mimics symptoms of different thyroid issues, like hash's etc.
Hope that helps some.
