Dog Breath Soup
By: Cheryl Valentine

Need:
Skillet or frypan
6qt stockpot

Ingredients:
1# hamburger, 80/20
12oz bag of salad
1/2 stick of butter
4 beef boullion cubes

Start 4 qt's. minus 2cups water boiling
Crumble & panfried hamburger with olive oil cooking thoroughly
(save the yummies in the pan for deglaze)
Add cooked beef to boiling water
While fry pan is still hot, add 2 cups of water & bring to a boil, scrape sides & bottom of pan to remove all the yummies
Pour contents of frypan into stockpot with boiling beef & water
Add 1/2 stick of butter
Boil for 10 minutes
Add bag of salad & 4 boullion cubes
Boil for 5 more minutes
Done, turn off heat, serve & ENJOY!

Here is the Nutritional breakdown for WHOLE POT:

Carbs = 9.4 Protein = 125.4g Fat = 153.6g Calories = 1941

There are many variations I use:
Chicken Meat, Ground Turkey, Stew Meat, Pork Chop Chunks
Use beef, chicken & pork base according to meat for desired flavor

I like it with a little crisp to it(I serve within 2 min of throwing the salad in), but my kids like it soft(like the cabbage you mentioned). I mess around with different spices with a dash of this or that spice in my bowl, garlic powder, chili powder, chinese 5 spice...It comes out real tasty to me! It kicks me into ketosis it no time. I can eat a 4 quart pot a day!

The salad can be 1 lb. of what ever vegetable you want.

In the chicken version, you can scoop the chicken tenders out of the soup with a strainer & cut them to bite size pieces, add a little dehydrated onion & snip some green onion over top & make a mock won-ton. I did a chicken w/broccoli for the 4th for me. I love the chicken base(as I call it). I'll use fresh spinach, or mustard greens, or cabbage(watch the carb's though), brussel sprouts. You can even make a good mock gumbo using okra & your spices right...

Creativity is yours...

Just start with 1/2 the recipe, use the EVO, butter & meat & add your own vege's!

Have fun with it...

~Cheryl

Sounds yummy. Not the name though, hehe. Kind of reminds me of the name of a candy that I used to eat all the time. It was a black currant/licorice hard candy but it was known as cat piss candy because the first lick of it made you think of the smell of cat pee and then suddenly it would turn sweet in your mouth.

Does the combination of butter and hamburger fat make the soup really greasy? I know fat is our friend and all, but some things I really can't stomach when greasy instead of rich if that makes sense.

LadyBelle,
The butter & the boullion combination really cuts the greasiness of the hamburger style soup. You can drain the fat(or use leaner meat) if you want, just up your butter in it. The flavor is there more to me when you use the drippings though! Saves on adding more salt or the MSG in the boullion. Experiment around. I've made it with the hamburger/cabbage combo. It's good! I have another recipe made with a gravy base I'm gonna post later! LMK how you 'modified' your soup! ~Cheryl

I bought a 10 pound chub of hamburger because of the cheap cost. I think this will be one of the recipes I try in order to get it used up fast.

Don't think I have boul.. erm the broth stuff. I might have a veggie based one though.

Trying this tonight with the ingredients on hand.

I used a tad more hamburger to start, but it was 73/27 mix, so after it cooked there was probably about the same. I drained off the grease, then added the water and butter directly to the deep pan I browned the hamburger in.

I didn't have beef boullion, so instead I put in veggie boullion I did have. It had no salt or msg. After the mix boiled for 10, I put in spinach and butter lettuce as those were the greens I had on hand.

Since the boullion was salt free I tried adding salt sub and pepper to the soup when done. It was still really bland for my tastes though. I ended up adding in between 1/4 - 1/2 cup sugar free catchup. I realize that ups the carb amount but it did help with the blandness.

ETA: barely half a bowl and I am stuffed. My 4 year old wouldn't eat it, unfortunately, but I can get quite a few meals from it.

Thumbs up Good stuff!

LadyBelle,

I am using the larger cubes of boullion, Knorr, which usually equals 2x the smaller cubes, or 8(total) for the small cubes. I would stop at 6 (small)cubes & taste. I've gotten used to the slightly bland taste of the base soup, but you can 'Jazz' it up w/some hot sauce or the SF ketchup (as you used), but count the carbs!

The cabbage/pork soup really rocked today! Ginger3000, I eat this all day, throughout the day, by the end of a full 48 hours of eating this soup I'm in full blown Ketosis! Take a look at my PLAN, I have an assortment of the beef, chicken & now my pork DB soup. The veggies are versatile, but types are limited for induction. You'll have to 'fine-tune' it for each of your tastes, but remember to 'plug it in' for calorie/carb/fat/protein breakdowns. I usually only make 1/2 pound of meat, cut the water to 3qts. & half everything else, so if I want to I can have something else fo breakfast & the soup for the rest of the day!

Chicken & asparagus is good too! Cauliflower, chinese greens, bok choy....be inventive!

LadyBelle, what is the name of the no salt/msg boullion you use?

Thanks & enjoy! ~Cheryl Ann

While there is no salt or msg, there is yeast and some rice, so it's not for everyone.

Rapunzel Vegan Vegetable Bouillon - No Salt Added - Low Sodium

Ingredients: Yeast Extract, organic non-hydroginated Palm Oil, organic Rice Flour, organic Carrots, organic Onions, Organic Celery, organic Parsley, organic Turmeric, organic Mace.

Serving Size 1/2 Cube
Calories: 25, Fat: 2g, Carbs: 0, Protien: 2g

I bought it since it was sugar free. It seems most of the soup bases or broths I find add alot of sugars into them. I used 2 bouillon cubes for the entire soup, so added 100 calories on. I got a massive amount of soup from the recipe though, I'm thinking 10+ servings if I can only eat small amounts like tonight.
