Pork rinds are fried pork skins and salt. One serving has less than one carb. They come in the plain flavor but they also have BBQ and hot flavored ones. Personally, I can't eat them plain. But they are wonderful for dips and stuff. This morning for breakfast I had liver pate and pork rinds.........sounds gross but it sure makes me feel good physically. I don't like the smell of them, but Atkins would be a lot harder for me without them. You can usually find them in the potato chip (and we usually know where that is!) section at the grocery store. My grocery store runs out a lot, so I end up getting them at a convenience store near the chips and stuff.
I checked the package and the Baken-ets brand we have here has a 1-800-352-4477 number if you cannot find them locally. Each serving also has 5g of fat, and that is a good thing for us.
If you can't find pork rinds in your local market you can always find them in the Wal Mart along with my other favorite snack staple, beef jerky. The Wal Mart here tends to carry only plain pork rinds, but it'll give you the idea. If your local grocery doesn't carry a variety you will have to go online and fine a lot of providers.
Just remember to look at the labels. Some of the flavored rinds and fancy marinated beef jerkeys have carbs.
Hi Kim, besides the snack aisle a lot of groceries around here carry pork rinds in the hispanic section. They're called "Chicharrones" I think, and I've seen them at Kroger and Harris Teeter. They should be easier to find here than in some parts of the country. I had never seen them until I moved down here. I don't eat them myself (nothing against them, just not to my taste) so I can't comment on which locally available brands are better.
Hi Kim! I live in Durham. Used to work in Chapel Hill until I got laid off Have you been to that D'Lite place in Cary? I found it a couple of weeks ago, went a little nuts & bought all kinds of things. Now I can't eat any of them cause I'm doing induction again. boo hoo!
Durham...wow. I work right in downtown Durham, not far from the ball park. I live in Chapel Hill, about 8 blocks from the Durham County line. Not that that helps any since Durham is so huge. I'm close to 15-501 and the Durham Home Depot and Walmart. We oughta do a low carb lunch one day!!!
Anyway, I haven't been to that place in Cary but it sounds like a place I'd certainly like to try.
This morning I'm off to my 11:00am step class, then to my son's 2:00pm basketball game.
