I know how exciting that "finally in ketosis" mode is. I woke up at 2:30 a.m. with ketosis breath. I was so excited that I couldn't get back to sleep. Congratulations on the "nutty smell." Christa

This is my second time around on Atkins and both times I've never noticed any smell from being in ketosis. Maybe I just haven't noticed. I do have a strong sense of smell. Does everyone get it strong or is the smell not as apparent in some people?

I've lost almost 20 pounds in the last few weeks, so I'm guessing I went into Ketosis, but I never bought the strips to find out for sure. Neither my wife or I noticed any breath difference, but that may just be because I am a smoker.

The first time I ever tried Atkins I noticed a sweet kinda weird taste whenever I drank anything. Haven't noticed it this time around. I wonder if coffee or Nutrasweet has anything to do with that? My very first try at Atkins for the first 2 weeks I was totally clean. No lite beer, no coffee, no nutrasweet, but after induction I started adding in lite beer, low carb yogurt etc... and then that weird taste went away. I'm going clean again, so will let you know if it comes around again.

for some it is almost like a metallic taste in their mouth OR constant dry mouth.

Isn't Ketosis wonderful?

For me, it's the ever persistent metallic taste. I try to look at it as a positive sign (== ketosis), but it does feel like I've been sucking on tin foil

Some folks say those Listerine Strips take it away but like mouthwash, its only temporary.

It can help briefly by masking it with minty freshness, but mouthwash kills bacteria in your mouth that cause bad breath. Since ketones are being released in your actual breath, mouthwash won't actually get rid of them. But the mouthwash or listerine strips will help if you need a quick fix for a kiss or a face-to-face conversation or something.

I find that if I drink tons of water, my breath definitely stays fresher.

I don't even mind the ketone breath, though. It's a fine trade-off for losing the weight!
