Question college

Ok I have read up on the atkins diet for along time now. I want to start it this new year, but I just don't think it is possible being at college. It seems everyone is changing there minds about atkin's now and saying it is a good way of eating. I just don't know if it can be done while at college?? any suggestions?

You may want to check out the "Students & Teens" forum. I think there are plenty people eating this way at college. It would just depend on your situation. Scope out food choices, what you can get on your own, etc. If you eat in a cafeteria you might be able to ask for more meat and veggies and just hold the carb-laden foods. If you have a fridge and microwave there are tons of options.

Good luck finding something that's right for you!

I think you should give it a try. Read the book thoroughly over the holidays, start thinking about your food choices now, and start cutting out a few carbs if possible. Don't binge before you start.

Do you live in a dorm or apartment? Let us know what kind of food offerings you have and we can help you out.

Weight problems only get more difficult with age. I'm absolutely loving Atkins after my first month and KNOW 100% that this is the right way to live for me.

It's been quite a few years since I've been in college, but there was always a salad bar option available and usually some type of meat that didn't have breading or sauce on it in the cafeteria.
It will probably be a bit more difficult if you rely on cafeteria food, but it's definitely possible.

Hi Rizzy,

I'm a full time student and have been on Atkins for a year or so. I manage fine, but it does take a little planning. There are Burger King's and all kinds of eating places on my campus (Sac State) so whatever I order, I toss the bread and ask for extra lettuce.

I carry some snack with me and I'm never without my bottled water. It's no real effort, nothing more complicated than eating out without doing Atkins. Just different choices on the food.

If you're serious about starting, use this time to clean out the carb stuff out of your house!! That's the worst part about just starting is that you're not really sure what to eat and you don't want that stuff around.

Good luck.
