Default Quest bars: Good news, bad news

Good news is they took out the IMO (modified starch) and are now using erythritol.
Bad news is they used too much erythritol in the bar I just ate. It was WAY too sweet (smores).

cool! and uh oh.....maybe other flavors are better?

i got an unexpected surprise last night! my favorite icecream as kid was mint chocolate chip, so my boyfriend ordered me a whole box of the Qeust mint chocolate as a random "thinking of you" gift.

Hopefully not all of the reformulated bars are that sweet. But what a great boyfriend!

i hit the jackpot with this man. He makes me feel absolutely adored and that i am amazing EVERY single day.
I am so lucky to have a partner who pushes me hard to challenge myself, but is right there every painfully slow step to support me, and to catch me when i fall.....
my illness this year would have most men running, instead it brought us closer.
dang it-- *onions*

will report back on the mint chocolate flavor soon!

Some of the Quest bars don't have the extra sweet taste from the erythritol. The vanilla almond crunch and the peanut butter supreme don't have erythritol in their ingredient list. I really like the Quest bars, especially for traveling.

From what I understand some Quest bars have stevia and others have sucralose. I have eaten Quest bars for a long time but if I have too many, or I have the ones with sucralose, my face and scalp break out in boils

I make a homemade version using their protein powder and vitafiber. They are as good or better than the store bought.

http://www.questnutrition.com/ingredients/

This is the link to the info on ingredients in Quest bars. I have had great success using them and like a lot of their flavors. My favorites are the ones based on nuts or chocolate. I'm not a fan of the fruit ones, they taste too sweet to me. The other huge positive to me is how short their ingredient list is on each bar. I used to eat Atkins bars years ago, but they kept adding more sugar alcohols and their ingredient list got crazy long with stuff I would have to look up to figure out what it was.

My husband uses the Quest protein powder and has had good luck making smoothies and stuff with it.

I'd like to try them, but man -- most have 25G carbs per bar.

The Quest bars I eat only have 3 to 5 net carbs. The bars are made up mostly of protein powder and fiber, which gives it a low net carb count. A positive for me is that the fiber (often around 18 grams) is a prebiotic.

Thanks, Nancy.

I've only found two flavors so far without the Isomalto-Oligosaccharides: S'mores and Mint Chocolate Chunk. I hope they eventually eliminate it from all the flavors.

My meter shows that their other flavors, with the Isomalto-Oligosaccharides, spike my blood sugar. Only the two flavors I mentioned above don't cause my blood sugar to rise - so I would advise continued caution, especially for diabetics, on the other flavors; I hope they take out the IMO from all of them soon.

I just found out that you can by the Vitafiber on amazon. My plan is to try a pecan pie with the syrup. Will let you know how it turns out.
