Default 66 miles in 23 hours

I was in a 24 hour race last weekend. It was held in the Medicine Bow Nat. Forest outside of Laramie, WY. I had plans to run at least 80 miles. But the heat got to me early on. For most of the night I couldn't keep even water down. But I never stopped moving. It was a slow walk at best with me averaging 20 minute miles. At 23 hours I was walking into trees because of sleepiness so I quit early.

I had prepped for the run by increasing my carb intake for the week prior. Probably I should have increased my salt intake instead. I went to several webs looking for advice on lowcarb eating and racing. Uniformly the responses were that I should be eating mainly carb during the race. Lowcarb is okay for training but not for racing. But now I'm thinking I should have been eating avocados rather than granola bars.

Congratulations on getting that far. 66 miles is amazing. Do you have blisters?

I know quite a few people who do endurance racing while low carbing. They find that they can increase carbs to around 150g a day while staying in ketosis if they are training enough, but need to increase calories a lot. Calories are what supplies the energy, not carbs per se.
