Lot's broken, actually. Bernstein recommends a target of 83 for bg, and that's a tough one to reach, but is possible.
The problem is the three-fold goal of losing weight, reaching blood sugar targets, and getting a healthier metabolism.
The low carb eating approach seems like the best direction, and a loss of 7.4 lbs the first month with good blood sugar, and good health is a great start, but a slow one.
Also of concern is that I have a very long way to go, and I think that the amount of long acting Insulin in my system is slowing me down.
I've started taking small injections with meals to tighten control (.5 to 1.5 units of Humalog), and saw my fasting bg drop by 15-20 points over a few nights. I've started lowering my basal dose of Lantus to adjust to target. Seems to be working.
I also started on Metformin again to try and lower my insulin resistance. Hopefully I'll need less total daily insulin, and will shed the weight faster. With 60 + lbs to go, that's important to me.
