What you are experiencing is the progression of insulin resistance - it worsens until a point, then you roll over into the diagnosable range.
As you lose weight, your IR will improve greatly and your LC diet should be enough to control your BG. That and regular exercise.

That's not necessarily true. As mentioned in this thread, a higher fasting blood glucose is known side effect of being very low carb. In that case, it'd be handy to know what they are the rest of the day.
Likewise, being sick can increase blood sugar even in normal people, even if you don't feel sick.
