Question Has anyone used the honey substitute?

While at wallmart last week, I found a plastic squeeze bottle of honey substitute. It looks just like honey and is made from several different sugar alcohols. I bought it and now I am kind of scared of it. I tasted a tiny bit on my finger and it sure does taste like honey. Can anyone help me out here with suggestions or point me to a recipe that has used it? Thanks.

Nan

I saw it but I confess I was to scared to try it after eating the SA candy.
What is the carb count on it?

I think that the carb count was 17/serving all from SA's and the serving size was either a tsp or tbs.....I don't remember.

Thanks Nanci! I think it would be good on flax pancakes if the SA don't upset ones tummy.

I use sf honey, but SAs don't have a bad effect on me. I don't use it very often, though, because of the high carb count.

The cheaper one is made of maltitol, or mostly maltitol, called "sugarfree honey", I think.

The better one is made with almost all (if not all) xylitol, and tends to be less tummy upsetting.

There is more than one, so more detail like the actual name on the label or the Ingredients List, would help.

Also, may be in the PRODUCTS forum, if that's the kind of info you're looking for.

As for cooking usage, basically you can (if you want to) use a faux honey wherever you would use a real honey, if you can handle the SAs involved or the carbs.

I wish I could handle the SA's...since real honey is one thing I do miss having (my next door neighbor had/has a bee farm)...
There are a few different honey extracts and flavoured oils on the market though to impart a honey flavour (check the label, some are natural flavor, some are artificial) for those of us that cannot handle the sugar alchols.

I've got some Honey Flavor/Extract, very strong (1 drop does it) so I'm pretty sure it's LorAnn brand. Not at home at the moment so can't check for you.
https://www.lorannoils.com/p-8442-honey-flavor.aspx

Believe it or not, try ebay.ca -- always has potential and I think there's some LorAnn listed there right now.

I've found some flavours/extracts locally, in a candymaking supply/cake decorating store, and also in a comprehensive local health food/grocery store (had some great Ginger Extract there, too). Also online, based out of Toronto...if I could only remember the name of the place. A HA! Golda's Kitchen, here's the flavourings page:
http://www.goldaskitchen.com/mercha...l?id=115&step=3

I'll keep an eye out.

Last night I made some of those donut holes with the whey protien powder. And I thought that they looked kind of like those little italian donuts.......zeppoli, I think.......any who......I took a tiny bit of my faux honey and drizzeled it over the balls just like zeppoli. It was really good. Too good. I used about 1 tsp of it did not have any tummy upset.
