Today, Day 4, I weighed in at 264.8. Can this be real?? I know from the past that it certainly can be. A lot of it is water weight for now.... But I'm ok with that!

I am interested in switching from very low carb to South Beach.
Is there any info on how to do phase 2 anywhere on this site?
Sorry if I should be posting this somewhere else, but I’m having trouble finding anything about South Beach on this site.

Well, we are in the SBD part of the forum. Unfortunately, I can't get the 'search' function to work. I remember from years ago it didn't work.....

But transitioning is really easy. It's just like Phase 1, but you add in a fruit or a grain. You pick one or the other. I remember I added in ONLY one apple a day, and I paired it with 2 tbsp of natural pb. It was delicious!

Here is some info I found online and I've copied it and will paste it here for you. Hope it helps.

During phase 2 of the South Beach diet, you can continue eating the foods that were allowed in phase 1. These include a daily diet of 4 1/2 cups of non-starchy vegetables, 2 cups of low- or non-fat dairy products and unlimited protein from seafood, lean beef or pork, poultry, game meats, lamb, low- or reduced-fat cheese, eggs, beans and legumes. With the onset of phase 2, you can now add in up to three servings of fruit and three to four servings of certain starchy vegetables or whole grains, such as whole-wheat bread, brown rice, whole-wheat pasta or quinoa. You may also have one daily serving of light beer, wine or spirits and treat yourself to dark chocolate or fat-free, sugar-free pudding.

Thanks to you both....I know a lot more now than I did.
My latest blood work from last Friday has my Dr. very concerned. I have been doing VLC for 5 months, I’ve lost 33 lbs., but my total cholesterol and my LDL skyrocketed.
Apparently for a very few people, LC has an adverse effect on cholesterol numbers...for most folks cholesterol improves. I’m one of the unlucky ones apparently.
Dr. wants me on Crestor 10 mg., and I’m very nervous about taking a statin. All you hear is how bad they are.
Thanks again for the info.
Maeve

Hello ladies, I am glad to see that this thread is alive again

Maeve, I believe SBD can really help you lower your cholesterol. One thing that you need to keep in consideration is that your cholesterol not only goes high from eating fatty foods but also from processed foods and sugar. Since SBD eliminates those (I used to follow the original SBD) your cholesterol really goes down. I have never had a problem with cholesterol but my mom did and when she followed SBD 8 years ago it really helped lower her cholesterol and regulate her blood pressure.

Oh wow, I didn't know about this book! I am going to be interested in reading it. However, since the SBD has now been taken over by Palm and what is the other one--Nutrisystems or something?--I am hesitant to believe what will be in the book... I'm sure there won't be anything in there that we don't already know when it comes to keto. What are they going to say to make SBD keto? No more milk now? No beer/wine? (Fine with me, I don't drink). No more fruit or grain? What else could they do to make it more keto, right?

Maeve, hope your cholesterol numbers will improve soon. I've been reading that the statin drugs are helpful to men, but not so much to us women. I remember 7 years ago when I did the SBD and then transitioned into LC/HF, my numbers--all of them--improved a lot. I was taken off of the statin and bp meds I was on. I don't remember what the numbers were now, but I had them written down, somewhere. I just remember it was good for me. I hope yours will be too. Good luck!

Thanks Molly.
I am not going to take the statin she prescribed.
I’m eating much, much less saturated fat and hoping that will help my numbers. I’ve cut out butter, HWC and red meat.
My HDL and my TRI are very good, it’s only the HDL and total CHOLESTEROL that’s shot up since I started LCHF.
Hoping for a good outcome in 3 months...

Thinking of checking this out as well. People seem to do very well in keto.
