I had been dealing with 2nd hand freezers that kept dying on me - that's pricey when everything thaws to the point it has to be thrown out. When the last one died - somewhere in the '90s - I bought the only upright freezer a local repair & sales guy had on hand: a Gibson Heavy Duty Commercial Freezer. They go for around $1500 now, but I know we didn't pay anywhere near that much because we paid cash - no credit card back then.

This has been one of the best appliance buys I've done. At the time, I had never heard of Gibson. It's still going strong. I highly recommend it if you can afford it - or find a nice 2nd hand one that's been treated well.
