its close but its not exactly the same. it has the same texture but its not the same exact flavor. i think that has more to do with the animals, their diet, etc. i have made tzatziki with regular yogurt, strained for at least 24 hours though. with so many other flavors in it, you dont notice that its not made with authentic greek yogurt.

Re: freezing the yoghurt.

I don't think Woo meant to freeze it completely. I don't think that would even work, but a little while in the freezer, with frequent stirring would thicken it up enough to make it better texture.

Default full-fat yoghurt

Here in Canada we can buy the Liberty Mediterranean yoghurt at 10%butterfat. It is very creamy and rich. I add some Da Vinci's syrup - Dulce de Leche and English Toffee are my favourites -- along with unsweetened toasted coconut flakes and some Grams Gourmet Flax and Nut crunchies. It is a wonderful treat, and very satisfying.

There are also a few middle eastern grocery stores around, and they sell the laban and thick yoghurt cheese behind the counter. I never thought of trying those.

Cherie.

I love the brown cow cream on top single serves. I'll also get the stoneyfield farms, or Dannon in a pinch. I would love the greek yogurt though. I also will make my own with hood milk, but that takes time and fridge space, not things I always have.

Just checking in to say that I love my Greek yogurt! I buy the Fage Total brand from TJ's (like Nancy) and use it in everything these days.

after reading this thread yesterday, I went out last night and got me some of that Greek yogurt. Soo tasty!!
I think I got mine from Danone (in Ireland) and it was 4.7 g of carbs per 100g. I ate the whole 250g tub ;-( so slightly over my carb allowance, but it was just so nice ;-)

I'll have another look in a proper supermarket tonight and see if I can find anything else.

Default carbs in yogurt

There are many lc's out there, including Dana Carpender who believe that yoghurt has much fewer net effective fewer carbs than thought because of the lactic acid, and so a cup of regular yoghurt only has 4 carbs, not 14, well within the range for us to enjoy.

I bought 7% m.f. natural yogurt yesterday, poured it over frozen mixed berries, added a little sweetener and I was in heaven. Will take everyone's advice and add nuts and grated coconut for variety. It sure tasted much better than the ready made fruit yogurt, low fat with tons of sugar variety.

OMG I just developed the best alteration to my yogurts...

Here's what you need...

1 LC yogurt (I used hood's peach flavor, put in the freezer a few minutes before using)
.5 oz nuts (I used pecans
10 grams untoasted bran (or toasted but I prefered untoasted and to toast myself)
.25 serving of LC cereal (I used atkins almond flavor)
some fruit (I used 3 strawberries, frozen and chopped)
a dollop of whipped cream
half a lemon

toast the nuts and the bran, mix and crumble with the cereal. mix all that together.
mix the chopped, frozen/cold fruit in with the toasty grain crunchy stuff.
Squeeze in the lemon (this gives a real kick, it tastes almost like frosting). Dollop on whipped cream. Enjoy

Hehe Woo, I have been eating a variation of that for awhile (minus the lemon) . I do:

1 LC Hood Vanilla yogurt
sprinkle of chopped almonds
sprinkle of lc granola (Flax-o-meal is brand I use)
sprinkle of Atkins cereal (I like using almond too)
a few chopped up frozen strawberries
whipped cream

Very yummy! I will try to squeeze some lemon into it to see if I like it.

Have you tried a smoothie like this? it's pretty good:

3-4 frozen strawberries
3-4 oz carb countdown milk
1 oz da vinci vanilla syrup
1 lc hood yogurt (vanilla or strawberry/raspberry)

Blend all above well in a blender. Add to the smoothie sprinkle of lc granola, nuts, whipped cream, atkins cereal. This along with the yogurt dish above is my favorites
