Centrum is garbage..dump that

How much fish oil are you taking..you need at least 5 grams if not more.

the other stuff is great..I like green tea caps taken along side cayene and ginger and if well tolerated white willow bark for boosting your thermic capacities.

Get a good vitamin primer--Dr. A's Vitanutrient Solution is a good place to start--and read it, and start from there. Take what you have, study what might apply to you and your life and your goals, limits, inclinations, interests, etc., and go from there.

I can't begin to tell you what you might need to stave off risk factors I don't even know you may be facing.

Male, female; age, environmental risks, family history, known health problems, YMMV. It's a big game.

You have the right idea ... I just don't like the centrum.

I assume you are male ... large guy (you were 270 pounds)

I would prefer that people take a "mega" multivitamin that requires you to take six or eight pills per day (half after breakfast and half after dinner).

I would also recommend a formula especially designed for men. (I would recommend that women take a formula for women - belive it or not - I have to add that sentence or I get flames about suggesting women take men formulas) The men's formula is going to have more amino acids and things like zinc and magnesium that help boost circulation (the most important part of your body depends on good circulation - and no I am not talking about your heart - but that is improved also), help boost testosterone, growth hormone, etc.

For men it is important to take at least 35 mg of zinc - but not more than 50 mg. Lots of B vitamins is good -- but in proper proportions. The "mega" mens multivitamins should take care of proper proportions.

Men have to worry about blocking conversions of testosterone to estrogen that cause problems such as with your prostate, hair loss, etc. That is what the pumpkin seed, saw palmetto, nettles, Milk Thistle and one or two others are for. These and other antioxidants also help with this problem.

www.vitacost.com has their synergy line. I recommend the synergy for men

http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Synergy...tamin-Version-2

GNC has good quality - but their prices are sometimes high. If you can catch their sales at the right time -- they tend to be a good buy. They also have a good mens mega multi

http://www.gnc.com/family/index.jsp...8478&cp=2562356

http://www.lef.org/ is pretty good with their Life Extension mix. I don't know if they have a formula especially for men.

http://www.lef.org/newshop/cgi-shop...cgi?catid=40018

Vitamin Shoppe is in most towns. I don't know much about them - but they do have a men's formula that seems kind of wimpy

http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/....jsp?id=VS-2304

I think if you print out the vitamin shoppe above and the vitacost above - you will see a huge difference. BUt if you like vitamin shoppe - print out the vitacost mens formula - go to vitamin shoppe and let them pull together something similar.

Fish oil should be around 4 grams per day. Lots and lots of fish oil. Should be labeled as "pharmaceuitcal grade", "molecular distilled", "purified" (with the proper spelling of course :-).

I like your green tea and chromium. YOu can modify your chromium up to like 800 mcg per day. What you are looking for is control of cravings and hunger. If you have strong cravings and hunger - then increase it. If you get light headed or dizzy then decrease it. Probably at least 400 mcg - no mor than 800. Note most multis will have chromium so don't forget to add that in

Are you taking potassium as in salt substitute?

How much magnesium are you taking per day?

Are you having any other problems like joint pain?

A good mixture of anitoxidants are probably next on the list (your green tea falls into antioxidants). There are so many and some are rather expensive -- just buy what you can -- and you may want to rotate them. Try one for a month and then another for a month, etc. If you are buying a high quality multi-vitamin then you should also be getting many good antioxidants in it also.

Good antioxidants include CoQ10, grape seed and red wine (or Resveratrol), berries, Acetyl L-Carnitine, Alpha Lipoic Acid, vitamin D (I have to put that in before she smacks me), Turmeric or Curcumin, Lutein, Pycnogenol (a new one from pine bark), Quercetin & Bromelain, too many to list and they probably all are good.

http://www.vitacost.com/articleResu...%20antioxidants

http://www.vitacost.com/articleResu...tt=antioxidants

You can either rotate antioxidants around or take a mixture like

http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Antioxidant-Complex

http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Super-O...oxidant-Complex

http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Antioxidant-Booster

antioxidants help remove "free radicals" - the things floating around in your body that do bad things - like cancer. There is no answer to the question - "how much" or "what all should I take" when it comes to antioxidants. All we know is more is better than less, smokers require more than non smokers, people that eat lots of veggies need less than people that eat lots of high glycemic foods (where do you think most of these antioxidants come from - but are antioxidant pills better than eating all the carbs and sugar of veggies and fruit?), older people need more than younger people. Although if younger people want to avoid health problems 20 to 40 years down the road (I know they could care less at this point) -- they need to be eating a lot more veggies and fruit than they do high glycemic foods (they will burn most carbs and sugar) to get the antioxidants and to prevent bad things from happening.

One other debateable issue -- is it better to take a standardized antioxidant pill of like tomato and know that you are getting X mg of the antioxidants -- or is it better to eat real tomato and not know its nutritional content?

I also would like to inquire about my supplements. I take:

6,000 IUs Vitamin D3
40 mg CoQ10
2 grams of Krill Oil
One Flintstones Kid’s Multivitamin (Yeah, yeah, I know. But they taste good.)

Quite frankly, I’m never sure what I’m taking is correct. I am healthy, 24, and female.

Any suggestions on improvement would be great. Thanks.

gryfonclaw,
Ditch the Flinstone chewable..I don't think we should even give those to our kids. Get a good multi found in a heath food store or online.

You are not taking enough Krill. It should be at least 5 grams a day spread out over a few meals.

The other supps look good. If you had a heart condition, I'd say you should up your coq10.

You could always add an antioxidant formula and additional magnesium.
