I tried the refeed idea on Monday -- had breaded chicken fingers, fries and garlic toast for lunch. Despite drinking tons of water and avoiding salty foods (for water retention), the scale went from 197 on Sunday to 200 on Tuesday to 202 today. Needless to say, I won't be trying this again! I guess it doesn't work for everyone.

Vpeach, am I reading your signature right? If you're 152.5 now, and want to be at 145 by 9/1/03, you're giving yourself 10 days to lose 7.5 pounds.

Honey, please don't do that to yourself! Be kind to yourself!

And anyway, this is a lifelong program.

Actually, there are several circumstances where going back to the Induction phase is recommened by Dr. Atkins in his book "New Diet Revolution". And Induction can't be that dangerous because Dr. Atkins says, in the same book, that if you have a very low metabolism you may never be able to take in more than 20g of carbs a day without gaining weight. He also says you can stay on the Induction Phase as long as you like. Skimming through his book won't work...you have to read it, read it and read it again. And use a highlighter to mark the information that is of the greatest importance to you.

From VA, I don't think you & hcomeau are necessarily disagreeing with each other. I thought hcomeau was saying repeated "refeeding" (i.e., repeated carb blow outs) is dangerous -- at least, that's my reading of that post.

Whereas you're saying you can stay on induction forever if you want.

This was what really caught my eye...a blanket statement like that can cause a lot of confusion for folks coming here without a lot of real knowledge about DrA's WOE.

well I had a cheat meal at souplantation yesterday with my mother. I just couldn't say "no" one more time to eating the sourdough bread! I had 2 slices, 1 muffin, and one heavenly brownie with a HUGE salad. I was good all the rest of the day...this morning 2lb gained. I'd like to feel really bad, I have been stuck yo yoing between 160-158 for 3 weeks. I didn't gain ANYTHING during my period and felt sure that meant I would lose after it, but I didn't .

I don't think I would put in a cheat day all the time, but I say now and then is ok. Back to Induction carbs for me until I drop those gained lbs!

I was stalled for 2 weeks. I went out for Pizza last night, and low and behold I lost 3 pounds this morning. Very odd, but hey I am not complaining. I think I will only do this when I stall.

You had better luck that I did on my first cheat day in three months Lots. I had a small bowl of pasta with my broiled fish last night after a day at the faire. I did sample a peanut/chocolate smoothie (about an ounce or so) and except for a very small portion of fat/sugar free ice cream in a dish walked by all the fries, candy and baked goods . I really thought I would not show much gain, walked all day and took carb blockers before each "treat", so much for them helping. I gained 2.5 pounds overnight, hard to believe.

Bayrat, I can totally relate. I have gained SEVEN pounds from a single meal.

What is going on with all these magical people who can eat carbs and LOSE?

I am going to have to stop following this thread because it makes me just too damn jealous.

I went off Atkins as I have stated here for about a week because I was just tired of eating meat... but... I counted calories and ate healthy foods..not junk or sweets...I kept my calories between 1100 to 2000 which that was my highest day and most days I was around 1400... at any rate I lost 3 additional pounds that week and now I am back on Atkins induction.... I think that when one does go off for a day or so they should not just pig out or eat sweets... that seems to be what causes weight gain and what I did was just a break... I wanted to eat things like watermelon and fresh corn before the season was over...each one of us has to see what works for us but I doubt that pigging out or eating a bunch of sweets will work for anyone...if it did we wouldn't be fat in the first place...lol

I will stay low carb most of the time and just use the calorie counting vegetarian diet whenever I feel I need a break from eating so much meat... I am determined to do whatever it takes to get this weight off and then never allow it to get more than 5 pounds over my goal weight without doing something about it ever again.

Don't stress out about it. Some people can do a blowout, some - can't.

Same happens to me when I have those low-carb chocolates, like I said. I gain 2 lbs. if I have one.

It's different for all people, I wold think.

There is another thread where people have discussed the nitty-gritty details of how and why they do these carb filled days and it has made for very interesting reading. Some say it really works to "reset" your body but I gather you can't just do a carb meal...the carb requirement to reset is quite high and there is so much information I need to go back and really read it all again for it to sink in. I'm still not sure if this is a good idea or not but some swear by it.

[QUOTE=absinthe]She says that eating the carbs will keep the metabolism going.

-----

What worries me is that it will also restart the cravings. For me stabilizing my blood sugar is what made the cravings go away. I was constantly overeating due to these cravings. If I was to have a carb day wouldn't that just mess up my blood sugar and restart the cravings. It might jumpstart my metabolism, however if I started craving sweets again I would start eating them again and I'd just gain back the weight. The only reason I can succeed on this diet is because I don't have the cravings anymore. Maybe this only works for people who aren't total addicts like me.
