Cool Hello Everyone

Hello All! My name is Cara and I am somewhat new to low carb. My husband has done this WOE for several years, but due to me having 2 babies and breastfeeding, I could not do it. I tried once while breastfeeding and it did not work. I am a mom of 2 sweet boys who are 3 years old and 10 months old. I am now ready to lose this weight and be healthy for myself and my family. Any suggestions or support would be greatly appreciated!! My starting weight is 246

Welcome CaraRae! I hope your little guys are sleeping through the night - everything - especially weight loss - is easier when you're getting proper sleep!

For me, I know that I'm a carb addict. That doesn't stop me from ever eating carbs. I just had a week where I ate poorly and my body is feeling it. I'll probably plan to do it again a few more times this year, but overall, I stick to plan and for me eating low carb isn't really that hard to do once I'm in a groove. This way of eating is no longer entirely about weight loss and looking better. It's about feeling better for me. Stick with it and be patient and I'm sure you'll discover low carb is not just about weight loss but improved health overall.

Hi everyone, this is my DW (Cararae19) that Just joined, I told her and a few other to come to this site because the ladies on here know their stuff better then anyone I have talked with. The information on here is so much better than Facebook, which is to filled with junk.

I know there is not many guys on here besides me and a few others. If all the ladies would chime in and give her ideals, direction and this to read geared toward women that would really help.

JEY100, and Bevangel I hope you to chime in, I followed many thing you talked about and shared that helped me.

We all know men lose different than women. Thanks

Hi Cara!
Welcome to the boards.
I found that getting good reading material— either a book like Atkins (New Diet Revolution) or a solid, research-based website like Diet Doctor — really helped. In the beginning for me, there were times it was confusing, times I was fed up, times I was stressed and it was helpful to go to a good source and read and re-read for encouragement and to build confidence in what I was doing. This site helped too— i read way back in the threads (in the emotional eating threads, in general low-carb, the success stories, the successful people’s journals, the turtles club...): there is a whole community out there to learn from. Read the Newbies Stickies at the top of the threads, also the “Best of...” too!

If you start a journal and talk about what happens for you— your food, your frustrations—people can help.

Finally...I remember those days with little ones and how busy they can be and full of emotional ups and downs. My best advice for the first few weeks is to make sure your cupboards are stocked with on-plan, whole foods that you love so that you can eat whenever you need to. There’s lots of time in the future to tweak things. For now, a pan of chicken thighs you cooked up and put in the fridge (or extra bacon, or a bowl of hard-boiled eggs, or a ham you can cut slices off and top with mustard/mayo at will) always helps me. The first few days/weeks you may be super hungry as cravings leave you. Don’t be afraid of your hunger. Feed yourself with whole foods, protein and fat. If you’ve spent much of your life dieting or just always thinking about food and what we shoul/shouldn’t eat (and many of us women have) just learning to feed yourself as much as you need to feel satiated without guilt or fear can be an early challenge.

See you around the boards. This woe can change your life. Good luck!!

Welcome Cara

Nice to have a couple posting here, we know you already have the complete support of your DH.

Ditto everything Ruby wrote...look around all the forums for different topics of interest. There is one on Kiddos https://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=95 Not very active, but maybe by looking around it you will at least see how full-fat whole milk and yogurt, meat and veg, etc is so much better for developing brains than goldfish, cheerios and and all the other cereals I fed my DD at her doctors advice. DietDoctor is a terrific place to start and here is his guide on LC for children: https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb-kids

Super easy diet guide that can be used as a shopping list, see post #16 on the this following DietDoctor thread. https://forum.lowcarber.org/showthr...02&page=2&pp=15

All the best,

Thank you all so much!! I am happy to get on board, it's just so hard at the beginning. If anyone has any menu's or recipes they'd like to share, I would love to see them!

In this thread on DietDoctor, https://forum.lowcarber.org/showthr...02&page=2&pp=15 post #25 links to his low carb Challenge. It is a free Two Week Quick Start Guide, specific menus, serving size adjustable, shopping list is also adjustable, daily reminder email...really everything needed to start LC in one place. It isn’t a challenge as though you need to meet some goal, but recipes and support offered if you sign up. The recipes in it are all simple and popular ones.
