Curious about this - someone who is very PALE might need more vitamin D??? I thought it was just the opposite.

(Current weight/25)*1000 = my current daily dose of D3... about 10,000 IU currently. My levels are being maintained around 50.

So I would say that the time of year will also change your results. I still take the 10,000.

My levels must have dropped since my April test. He called and told me to take 2,000 IU a day. So I started taking my 10,000 IU dose again. Time to get back on the bandwagon...

The usual? range of light skin tones does more easily promote vitamin D synthesis from the sun. However, very pale skin tones, think Irish or Scottish heritage actually have fewer vitamin D receptors than "normal" lighter skinned people so they tend to just burn.

Sparse numbers of vitamin D receptors can be hereditary, genetic, fetal, environmental, or due to aging.

Luckily additional vitamin D receptors will be created when vitamin D is supplemented in sufficient amounts.

My Vitamin D was 13< which the doctor said it meant they could not measure it.

She put me on D2 - 50,000 IU once a week. So that is about 7000 IU a day. For the next 3 months and will recheck.

Next question I have for her is I don't do diary anymore so what about calcium?

I know D3 supplements when combined with calcium helps absorb more calcium. But I also have read a few sites that talk about Calcium supplements causing arterial blockage build up.

The D2 version was totally useless for me, I tried 2 or 3 6-week rounds of it. Didn't budge the number but 2 or 3 points. Read post #14 on this thread, hopefully one of VitD experts on this thread will add to it.

Thanks Janet, I missed that sentence "The prescription vitamin D supplements are the wrong type (ergocalciferol - vitamin D2). As warned by the National Institute of Health -"

Screw... Well I will try the over the counter, again. But I swear when I upped it to 2000 IU a day it gave me liquid diherea (sp?)

I will start trying it next Monday...See if it happens again...

A lot of vitamin D3 supplements are inferior quality and will cause that effect. Try a quality supplement brand such as Carlson's, Vitacost, etc.

I buy 50,000 IU D3 from Bio-Tech Pharmacal but you can purchase the Bio-Tech D3 from Amazon and a few other outlets as well.

Wow, I had no idea! Thank you for that info - I'm Irish and extremely pale so that's very relevant to me.

I checked the prices & vitacost can't be beat - their largest pill is for only 10,000iu, so you have to take 5 but you can do the oil - 25 drops is 50,000iu

30 day supply x 50,000iu of vitacost = $7.10
100 day supply x 50,000iu of vitacost = $23.66

I do one Country Life Vitamin D3 softgel in MCT -- 5000 iu & 4 capsules of10,000 iu vit D

The cheapest source I've found for vit D3 -

http://www.vitacost.com/Referee?wls...ralCode=2287858

preferred recommendation - Country Life Vitamin D3 in MCT -- 5000 iu - 200 Softgels $8.62
2nd option - Vitacost Vitamin D Drops -- 2000 IU 900 servings - 1 fl oz = 365 days at 4960 iu $9.99
cheapest - 10,000 iu vit D for 365days $16.99 = $1.42 for a month's supply
