So I'm finding myself in a dilema as to which of those ideas is the best. Eating something low carb whenever I was hungry is what got me back to 20 lbs overweight. So, although this group is for doing it the '72 Atkins way, I'm hesitant about that. OTOH now I find myself eating past 'just satisfied' to eating until I'm 'stuffed' just so I won't be hungry fo 5 hours. How often do the rest of you eat?

I have kind of morphed into a zero carb diet. I just found it easier and it works with my lifestyle. I guess I'm not strictly Atkins '72 anymore, but I like the people on this thread so I keep checking in and keeping up with people here. I hope they don't mind
I started experimenting with intermittent fasting about a month ago and LOVE it!! It was a little hard to get used to in the beginning, but now is pretty easy and I love not bringing food to work. I usually eat around 6 or 7pm and then again around 8 or 9pm, then nothing till the next evening. Again, this works really well with my lifestyle so your experience may differ. I feel like I have a better understanding of hunger now and I don't overeat at all. I think my stomach shrunk so I can't eat as much as I used to. In fact, I really hate the feeling of being stuffed or too full, so I'm a lot more careful about how much I eat. It's really helped me be more disciplined about my eating. A lower meal frequency might help you eliminate constant grazing and limit your calories by shrinking your stomach. The other nice thing about IF is I'm not afraid of being hungry. I think a lot of hunger is a state of mind. I mean I think we can psych ourselves up to think we'll drop dead if we feel a little hunger, but really you can function comfortably for a long time before it becomes a problem. I would definitely advise against eating in fear of future hunger. When I first started IF I kind of did that and it really doesn't help.
I think there are benefits to IF, but the most important thing is to have a program that works with your lifestyle otherwise you won't be able to stick with it and/or will be miserable. Try both methods and see what works better for you. Good luck, let us know how it goes.
