Question Question for quietone re: type B friend

quietone you wrote:

A girlfriend is B, she went on Atkins for quite awhile and lost nothing. Went to a naturalist who put her on a different diet, not only does she look better she feels better than she has in years.

I am type B and I am loosely following the Eat Right 4 Your Type plan. I find it is sort of LC since virtually all grains, legumes and sweeteners are on the Avoid list. Although I probably eat more fruit than most LCers are comfortable with, ie 2 or 3 servings per day.

I'm curious what kind of diet the naturalist recommended to your friend. Would you mind giving an outline of it?

Thanks,
amie

Default Hi, amie...

Don't know if I can recall all of it, but here goes...

One of the main things that is so different from low carb is the meats. She can have almost none (meaning farm animals, not fish). Her primary source of protein is soy.

For breakfast she usually has oatmeal and/or ketone shake.

For lunch is a salad with no meat, but lots of different vegs and some fruit.

Dinner is usually some kind of fish, and vegs. Or she uses some type of soy substitute. It seems quite a strict diet, and she is not losing much weight on it. But she feels infinitely better and that was one of her primary goals (and to get some sleep (she has fibro also)). This diet has allowed her to do both. And while she is not losing weight at any great speed, she has stopped gaining and seems so satisfied with the diet that she doesn't feel impatient about the weight loss.

Her naturalist does follow the blood type diet to a degree with her recommendations. I haven't read the book for other blood types, so I am not sure where the differences may lie.

I have thought about going to her also, but I know she advocates soy very highly and I am allergic to all soy products. So...I am lc-ing on my own.

Hope this helps.

Smile Thanks!

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity quietone.

I can see how your friend's diet would fall within the parameters of the B type program. The naturalist has her eating foods only from the Beneficial category it looks like whereas I eat quite freely of the Neutral category. The only meats in the B's Beneficial category are lamb, goat, rabbit and game. Beef and turkey are classified Neutral. Chicken, duck, goose and pork are all Avoids.

The only legumes listed as Beneficial are kidney, lima, navy and red soy. I am allergic to soy as well and hate limas. I have a little kidney beans a couple times a month in chili and once in awhile add some navy beans to soup.

Your friend's version of the B program is a different interpretation of my own and what she's doing wouldn't work for me but
I am glad she has found a diet where she is healing.

Thanks,
amie
