Default Is there an egg white only diet??

I was recently told by a model agent/nutritionist that the easiest way to loose a whole load of weight really fast is to eat an egg white only diet for a week...

Sort of like loads and loads of yolk free omlettes...

She said you could mix in tuna fish, salmon, or any other low carb food for taste and flavour...she said that even if you eat 20-30 egg whites you won't eat more than 500 calories a day...

Has any one tried this?

She said it's great for quick weight loss, but hard to maintain in the long run...
and not a good idea to do for more than a week... and then she advised that if you want to maintain the weight lost in that week you have to be really careful a few days after the diet is over....

is this possible????

One thing about diets that have only one food in them is that they could kill you. You can't create certain amino acids or vitamins that are essential for life. If you don't eat a variety of food, how do you know you're getting everything you need to stay alive?

and she also, as i wrote, said to add other types of low carb food so it was never a one food only diet. :P

Why not eat the whole egg?

Egg yolks have lots of micronutrients that the whites don't.

That kind of dietary change is not sustainable. What the hell is the point? Any possible benefits will obviously be obliterated as soon as you revert to a less restricted diet. If all you want is to temporarily drop a lot of weight, why don't you just stop eating for a week?

Because that would be unhealthy.

Yeah.... not eating for a week ... that would be a little extreme

Anyway, if i actually had the will power to NOT eat for a week... i wouldn't have a weight problem.

zazi, I think the point that the earlier poster was trying to make is that an all egg-white diet equalling 500 calories a day for a week (also known as a crash diet) is also extreme and harsh on your body, even if you only do it for a week at a time. It also teaches you nothing about how to eat healthy and maintain your weight the rest of the time that you are not crash dieting.
Weighing 117 pounds at nearly 5' 4" tall does not a weight problem make and you would be far better served excercising and toning than trying to lose a 'whole load of weight really fast'.

Thank you, Lisa N., that indeed was precisely my point. Perhaps I was unclear.
