to sorta stay on topic. i only eat sweet potatoes because I am allergic to white potatoes.

What I really wanted to say was to Wheeler, I totally love your photo of cranberries!! guessing in Alaska. I have been to Northwest Territories for the past few years, in August for cranberry picking. I love picking berries in the Arctic !

I hate sweet potatoes, so even if they're the "good" potato, they aren't worth it for me.

White potatoes are just way too easy for me to overeat, and they trigger sugar cravings so they don't work for me as part of a low carb diet.

I think it all has to do with how carb tolerant you are.

Ten seconds into the article and already got a big chuckle:

I really don't understand Paul Jaminet's dogmatic insistence on the benignity of white potatoes, even eaten with fat. It defies logic that every single person, no matter how damaged their metabolism, no matter their genetics and epigenetics, no matter their ancestral background, will react positively to the same food.

200g of a white potato, slathered with butter and sour cream, turns me into a craving lunatic in 2 hours. 70 g. of a plain sweet potato, OTOH, sates me for hours.

I'm the same way, AJ. I also don't have nearly the BG rise when I eat sweet potatoes. I guess because more of their sugar is fructose.
