Well nothig has worked for me in a year, so I'm going to hang in there with the ON plan a little while longer. But I'm keeping my carbs at the low end, since I'm still experiencing higher than usual BG's.
I agree it's age/hormones/perimenopause/menopause. I had my first appointment with a doctor I found on thyroid-info.com yesterday, for hormone and thyroid testing. He's supportive of LC!!! I almost teared up when he told me it was the best thing I could do for myself.

I'm hanging in with the ON plan also. I do think that eating out for three meals probably hurt - even though I did my best to stay within my ratios, but think I still got a little too much protein and not enough fat. It's hard to get enough fat when you are out in public. I mean when you are having dinner at this haughty, chic pan-Asian fusion restaurant where everything is so tastefully presented and so obviously *low* fat it just seems impossible to ask "Gee, can you bring me a big hunk of butter?"

But I've had two days of home eating now and the scale dropped almost three pounds this morning, so I'm within a half pound again of my low of 286.

I'm so happy for you, sounds like you found a great doctor Karen!

There's something I want to suggest: food sensitivity. This was brought to my attention first by Citruskiss. She found that when she eliminated several foods that cause sensitivity/intolerance, she dropped a lot of weight. She recommends this book, False Fat by Elson Haas. The first half of the book talks about how to uncover a food intolerance/sensitivity. Apparently this doctor has found that by doing this with his patients they typically drop about 35 pounds once they discover the sensitivity. (And eliminate that food.)

This research backs up the theory.

I'm trying this next, maybe starting next week. I already know I have a severe problem with gluten and probably an issue with dairy too.

Well it's the last day of April, are we tallying up? I hope there will be a TDC challenge for May, I've enjoyed being part of this group, even if I'm still evidently just spinning my wheels - I'm not quitting.

Final for April
196.6 - 4/03/09
192.6 - 4/08/09
197.4 - 4/19/09
194.4 - 4/22/09
193.8 - 4/23/09
192.2 - 4/24/09
192.4 - 4/25/09
194 - 4/27/09
194 - 4/28/09
194.8 - 4/29/09
194.2 - 4/30/09

Fitday averages for the month of April:
Calories 1,559
Fat 120.4 1,073 68 %
Carbohydrate 46.8 168 11 % (net 33)
Dietary Fiber 13.6
Protein 80.4 330 21 %

I started Dr K's high fat plan half-way through the month, if I look at the last 2 weeks average only, it's
Calories 1,743
Fat 143.8 1,278 73 %
Carbohydrate 52.4 189 11 % (net 36)
Dietary Fiber 16.1
Protein 71.2 289 16 %

So I'm eating more food and not gaining, maybe even losing a little. Still working to get my protein consistently down. On days I eat at home, protein's been running around 57g a day, but that's getting averaged into a few restaurant days too, therefore the fitday average is higher.

Merpig, congrats on getting those 3 pounds off again. I know that must feel good.

Allison, thank you for your suggestion. The new doctor is an expert in environmental medicine. In addition to hormones and thyroid, food allergies is another area he'll be exploring with me, along with possible mineral deficiencies. I'm so excited to have found him!

Hope you have good results.

I wondered if there would be interest in another thread for May; glad to hear there is.

If we're tallying up, I've lost seven pounds this month. My goal was ten. I had a hand in that shortcoming: I had a stupid idea that Easter needed to be celebrated with food that makes me sick/fat and there was another day that I decided that the best way to deal with a pint of coconut milk ice cream in the freezer was to eat it all in one sitting.

Merpig, things are going well for you. I think you should stay the course. I may try high fat again some day when I'm able to really figure out what I can eat on that plan. It's very hard to do without dairy. I'd also like to read the book

I think going dairy-free has eliminated all my headaches, made my skin look the best it has since elementary school, and left me depression-free for the first time in 35 years. It's only been since February so it's a little early to know for sure, but I think I may need to stay dairy-free for life. Gluten-free for life has already been firmly established.

I've gotten off topic. Should there be any particular focus for the May thread?

I say lets keep this going. I lost 8 lbs this month. I still have 7 to lose for my goal of 15 down by May 26th. That is the day of my Dr's apt. and I really want to be on the opposite side of 250 lbs by then.

I am down another pound today. I was a bit surprised as it is that TOM and I usually gain a few pounds during that time. I am going to go get a measuring tape today so I can track the inches, not just the pounds.

blumunz and Debbie, Great job!

Karen, I am so happy you found a supportive Dr!!!
