Default Hey Alison

I have a similar story with asparagus and some dinner guests in moms fancy dining room with all the china and stuff. The childs mother was giving him 'the eye' and, trying to be on his best behavior, the child quietly, dutifully stuffed the dreaded asparagus in. Then, from both sides of the heaving child came the adults with their fine linen napkins trying to contain an enormous spew from a very embarrased child.
It's just not necessary to put anyone, child or not into a position of "Fear Factor" gagging when they don't LIKE a food. Look at all the dislikes that this thread of adults has come up with! I would think that a child is also able to decide on a few things that put them off for what ever reason.

Oh BetyLou... I do feel for the poor kid. I think asparagus is an acquired taste. One that I never acquired... I subscribe to the Try It idea... "Try it, and if you don't like it, don't eat it. Now you know." And this is my personal philosophy as we don't have kids. But, if we did have kids, *I* certainly wouldn't force them to eat something they didn't want to or said was making them sick.
