Default Common sugar alcohols

Hey Honeypie

Did you know SF mints have sugar alcohols (anything that ends in -tol) in them and for many people they metabolize as carbs?

Just letting you know that maybe the dt soda or caffeine wasn't the issue at all....

Here's a list of Common sugar alcohols:

Glycerol (3-carbon)
Erythritol (4-carbon)
Threitol (4-carbon)

Arabitol (5-carbon)
Xylitol (5-carbon)
Ribitol (5-carbon)

Mannitol (6-carbon)
Sorbitol (6-carbon)
Galactitol (6-carbon)
Fucitol (6-carbon)
Iditol (6-carbon)
Inositol (6-carbon; a cyclic sugar alcohol)

Volemitol (7-carbon)
Isomalt (12-carbon)
Maltitol (12-carbon)
Lactitol (12-carbon)
Maltotriitol (18-carbon)
Maltotetraitol (24-carbon)

(Gotta love google! )

However, consumption of sugar alcohols does affect blood sugar levels, although less than that of "regular" sugar (sucrose). Sugar alcohols may also cause bloating and diarrhea when consumed in excessive amounts.

Onward, ↓ DOWNWARD & MAINTENANCE 4ever!

Jo

The bad thing about bars and restaurants is that they don't usually have much of a choice of diet sodas. And yes..we are allowed to have diet soda on A72.

Ah yes, low in sugar or sugar free almost ALWAYS means higher carbs. When they take something out of our food, something else usually replaces it or increases it. This is why you'll see low carbers in the stores reading every single label before it goes in the cart! EVERYTHING!!!

That's exactly what I heard or read. Diet Root Beer or A&W Root Beer is supposed to be one of the best cola choices, especially for us.... so bring on the beer!!

Oh and don't think they don't change up their recipes...you have to check things you buy all the time too...cause they'll change it up and they don't advertise it!! It's better to be forewarned before you eat it then after you eat it and stall or gain weight...not good!!

PB, that is a good one. Diet AW root beer is creamy and really doesn't taste like that diet soda taste. I like those and caffeine free. good choice. NOW pace yourself tho. not 5, 3. suck on ice cubs

honeypie, good post. it is good to realize the stuff we do and 'prentend' we aren't doing it. When we realize a problem in our eating or drinking, we need to take action to fix it. just fix it and it might take a bit but at least it is acknowledged.

labels. wow. the more natural I go the more labels are frightening. what in the world really is those long words of chemicals that is going into food? holy.

yes diet soda is allowed. I am finding I want now to skip that asparatme. it really has a bad wrap. it might effect you, it might not so that one is a call each can make for themselves.

I've got all my index cards ready!
I've got all my outlines for the essay questions ready!
Now it is time to cram as much of this information into my head as I can between now and Thursday evening!
Can I cram enough in and then recall enough of it to earn an A?!?! Only time will tell!!

never used a ketosis stick. I heard they were unreliable.
I figure if I cut carbs to almost 0, how in the heck could I not be in ketosis. why bother spending money to check.

even when I dabbled with NEW atkins 20 ( a plan I really did not like) I figure 20 is low also, ketosis has to happen. it just has to.

Hey ladies.... did anybody see Paula Potter on "My 600 lb Life" last week? OMG, she could be the Queen of Excuses. I found it really sad initially but by the end of the show I was pretty much disgusted in her and her attitude of sheer denial. One excuse and one lie after another. I felt SO sorry for her poor young son who has basically dedicated his entire 20 something years in servitude to his mother. Very, very sad. After seeing that I just didn't want to discuss anything to do with weight, fat or loss. That show was my ceiling for sure.

wasn't that Pauline?

yea it was rough to watch. I can't imagine ever doing something like that to my kid. 21 yrs old and probably will need tons of therapy just to make some kind of life for himself.

wow is all I can say on some of these shows. they are unreal to see what is happening out there in people's homes.

But one thing---did you notice that Dr. Now goes so far and stops. he pushes, tells it direct but if that person will not accept his information and put effort into changing he basically is done with them. I think he has the right attitude because I firmly believe if he let any of this get too emotional trying to save people who don't want to be saved, he would be in the looney bin himself.
