Don't worry ChefM, we all know how the scale bounces around, even while losing. I'm up, too. This was a tough weekend, between my birthday and easter. We attended a fish fry with friends Friday, went out for a bday celebration dinner with some other friends Saturday, then yesterday, had dinner at my son's house and they had a low carb cheesecake and champagne for me. So I guess up one pound isn't too bad, considering.
Have things strongly under control today! Forward and downward!

Little bump for me too - I had a big weekend. Heh. I think I'm back on track now! Back to recording my food, definitely.

I just had to join this thread for motivation. I haven't lost in a while, but I'm hopeful things will get moving downward again. Any weight loss would be great!

Ditto -- My losses are slowing and need some extra motivation. Having our own thread chef is SUPER!

I'm new here and hoping it's OK to join you all at this late date...

Hi there
I would like to join this challenge
I just started Atkins today and need all the tips i can to survive and stick with it.
One of the major challenges i face; I live in a home with candy, icecream and pie in the fridge and my siblings who are all stick thin.
What are your tips for dealing with this kind of situation? How do you stick to your diet?
Thanks!

Well, if moving isn't an option?!

Then, living with it is going to be your challenge and cross to bear. Recommend cold turkey on elimination of sweets... It is a lot easier for me, than eating just one bite or a single chip. No one can right?! -- Well it's pretty hard anyways. You have to recognize the foods toxic to your diet and view them as you would any other poison. NOT something you want in your mouth or your stomach. Well all that just rolls off the tongue or off the finger tips -- Your Mission - If you choose to accept it is to actually -- Just Do It!

Hi gbell,
those are tough challenges. I find when the scale is moving, that's all the motivation I need, I really don't want to cheat and spoil my momentum. When it's stalled, which inevitably it will be... that's tougher. Can you ask them to keep the goodies in their rooms, hidden from your view? I have hubby keep his candies and cookies in his office or the garage, and he doesn't mind. I can't deal with them sitting on the kitchen counter where I will see them every time I walk through the room, even if I'm NOT going to touch them. I don't need to do the "OOoo LOOK COOKIES!... oh I can't have them" thing 10 times a day.

Hi Fairy, gottalose and Donna!

Hi there Gbell1,
While it's tough to ignore food that isn't on your plan, I just treat off plan foods as if I am allergic to them. I mean if you were allergic to peanut butter you wouldn't be tempted by it. Well, it's the same for me. While high carb foods won't kill me right away, they definitely will contribute to my demise. If I have just one bite, I usually can't stop and end up eating the entire cake/container/box full.

For me it's mind over matter. Losing weight has to be the most important thing in my life or it just doesn't work.
I was super motivated when I started this thread and thought that I'd never have a problem or be swayed by treats but alas I learned that I am human.

My biggest problem this go around has been alcohol....not that I drink too much alcohol but that even one drink is enough to allow my inhibitions to fall away and I find my hand in the proverbial cookie jar.

I'm stocking up on diet tonic water. It's my go to pop while others are having alcohol. I also won't have too much either 'cause the flavour is rather strong.

Default Cleanse Weekend (well not colonic or anything)

I am going to be alone this weekend. Both my DH and DS will be out of town at various pursuits and I'm going to use the weekend to sleep well, drink lots of water and focus on clean eating.

I'm going to stick to just 2 or 3 meals a day and try for no snacks. Somehow snacks mean that I'm not focusing on eating when I'm hungry and I get out of touch with how much food I can consume in a day.

I've brought my food diary back out.

I've made some kale and sausage soup and I just need to have some dinners planned. I think that this weekend should be a seafood and fish one.

I think that bacon wrapped scallops and a tossed salad with blue cheese dressing will make an excellent dinner on Saturday.

Friday night will likely be prime rib as I plan to go out for dinner and that's the only reliable choice at the restaurant where I'm going. I am going completely alcohol free this weekend if it kills me, I need to see a good loss to give me momentum.

How about everyone else. Any recipe requests for the weekend?

Steph: Just curious if you set your goal at minus 30# intentionally? My former math major rearing its ugly head again... Congrats on the 4# loss -- puts you in the lead so far, I think...

Thanks for that essay on abstinence. It resonated with me. I'm an all or nothing girl and moderation isn't in my vocabulary.
