Hi!
I am still learning, so........

Could you explain the net carbs vs. total carbs on the label of these bars?

What do we count? The total or net?

Thank you for any input here

okay on dr atkins bars (not sure about any others) you will subtract the fiber and the alcohol sugar for example:
the endulge bar has 15 grams of carbo
3 grams of fiber
10 grams of alcohol sugar
you subtract the fiber and sugar alcohol and the carbs left are you net carbs which would be 2

not all products show the sugar alcohol but make sure you always subtract the fiber from the total carb grams and whats left is what you count.

and if it shows both subtract both

Most low carb companies do the calculations for you and you will see net carbs on the box.

sugar alcohol if i can explain it right has no effect on the body and your body dosnt store it like normal sugary things so if it does say sugar alcohol minus that from your grams..
if you go to www.atkinscenter.com there search for net carbs it goes into detail.

Thanks for the input in the carb o lite bar!

The only reason that I had asked about this (I did read the label of the bar, as well as everything else that I put in my mouth these days) is that I had seen some entries that had people saying that it could slow your weight loss down.

Is it only if you go over 20 carbs total (induction)?

Angry on sale?

They weren't on sale at my local GNC store. I paid full retail for them which to me is outrageous - $6.99. Will they be on sale at all GNC stores? They are good but they are pricey. Vitaglo.com has them for $4.99!! I think I will order a few boxes off of the net.

The Atkins Cinnamon Bun Bars are terrific!! I bought some today and tried and I was very suprised how good they are! I want to try the bluberry next! The are expensive though - $6.99 for 5 bars!! Vitaglo.com has them for $4.99 a box. Might want to buy them there instead!

Default Help

I am so confused.
I think that the candy bars with malitol stall me, but I use Splenda, does that mean that they are the same thing and I should lay off the Splends too?

Please say no.

Let's see if I can get this in order...

* Sucralose/Splenda is NOT a sugar alcohol- it is a chemical derivitive of natural sugar. It is known, however to cause triggers in some people, but it isn't a sugar alcohol.

* Sugar alcohols can stall people b/c it is a YMMV (your mileage may vary) ingredient. Some will have reactions in the blood sugar, others will not.

* Sugar alcohols can cause digestive discomfort- to say the least. Consume them wisely so as not to learn these nasty effects.

* IMHO, Sugar alcohols should be avoided as much as possible during induction so as to give your body a proper detoxing experience (regardless of whether or not you count them in the 20g of carbs).

HTH-
Nikki
