That's fantastic, Jenny! We have similar backgrounds. I launched a company on the Net in 1997 and it's still going strong.

I was a part of Usenet and all that back in the 80's. Back when we used 300 baud modems to download (and forward) all the email and 'net news. And we had half a gigabyte disks that required two very strong guys to rack them.

Whee!

Old women geeks especially!

Instead of being the Greek Goddess I always wanted to be, I am an Ancient Geek Goddess!

Nancy has morphed into Athena.

But you're not that old and you can still be a goddess. Fabulosity is mental.

I used to use a powerhouse computer - first micro in our company in 1983 - a Kaypro with CPM OS. Downloaded chemical literature search files with it at 300 baud. I sure am glad we can now download at 1200 baud...

Started doing word processing and spreadsheets with it. Most of the people thought it was a total waste of time using it and learning to use it... boy, did things change quickly...

I got the Ozborne #1292, or so, back in 83, but did not go online until several years later. I probably would have learned the geek stuff but was able to rely on 2 sons to do it for me.

Yup, a lot of us online addicts do have those backgrounds. I probably could live happily in an underground dungeon if it had a web connection.

My first computer was a Timex Sinclair... 1981 ish? You had to buy a 4k memory module for it. No real programs ran on it so you had to write your own. I learned Z80 assembly language and basic on that thing.

My first PC had no hard disk. I bought one later that held hmmm... 10 megabytes I think, cost $500. OUCH!

I had a book titled "I Speak Basic to my Commodore 64." Later on, I borrowed money from the bank to buy an Apple IIe with a 10 meg external hard drive running CP/M. I couldn't afford to buy a car because of my computer payment. I was hard-core addicted.

My very first "computer" around '81 was an Atari 400...

When I got my first hard drive on my first PC a few years later - it was also 10 MB, I couldn't imagine ever filling it up. A few weeks went by and I was already looking to delete files from it.

Not to stereotype but........
Is there a certain geek characteristic to getting good control of BGs? I work hard to sound not too obsessed around friends and kids.

LOL! Probably. We're analytical types and want to understand how it works in the most minute detail.

You know you're hard-core when in contemplating a move, the first thing you do is check for DSL availability.
