Can anyone tell me....is maltitol and maltodextrin the same thing? or, do they both cause a "gassy" problem for some? I have been eating the sugar free fudge pops that contain maltodextrin, and I have been suffering with terrible gas. After reading this post, I was wondering if it was because of this product "maltodextrin", which I never heard of before. Thank you.

I am one of the "unlucky" ones that is affected by sugar alcohol..I dont get the "gas"..but the poopies horrible..Till i figured out what it was, I would go to the bathroom 5-6 times a day..I know tmi..I stay away from them as much as possible..I did go to the health food store and they said the stevia is the best with helping this out. Right now, I am not using the sugar subs in anything..Best to just try and experiment till you find what works for you

Stevia is actually healthy...I have one kind with FOS added which is good for intestinal health, Stevia Plus, and another has inulin and chromium added which is beneficial for diebetics and prediebetics, Stevia balance. I don't notice funny aftertastes with either one. --Gail

Cool Gas from Atkins Indulge Bar

doubled over. I couldn't sleep! It took a while for me to figure this might
be the Splenda, but I've never eaten food with that much Splenda all at
once. My insides feel like I've been kicked in the stomach, kinda like a leg

reaction?

Dear luckyloser:
You are not alone, I'm sure.
I tried the Atkins Brand bars and had similar reaction and I had no splenda interaction. I think the Malitol content is a little high in the Atkins brand bars. You might want to try "Think Thin - The Low Carb Diet Bar". These are very good and dont bother my stomach at all. They are low in net carbs (2) and have an awesome taste. My favorite is Brownie Crunch. They also make a Chocolate Fudge that reminds me of a 3 Musketeers bar, but thicker. These are very filling and I have been known to go 6 hours before getting hungry after eating one with a cup of hot decaf or tea. They sooth my chocolate fix plus quell my appetite.
The "Think Thin" bars can be found at Whole Foods and they have now started carrying them at my local BJ's Wholesale Club! (I like to think I had something to do with that!)
Anyway, good luck with the Malitol issues. I noticed I do better with Erythratol instead.
Hope this helps.

Maltodextrin as a starch. It's most commonly used as a bulking agent for artificial sweeteners. I've never heard of anyone reporting any problems from it.
