Default You should be aiming for 10-12 times your current body weight in calories.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone goes by this statement or believes it?

Thank you,
Stephanie

The statement refers to the amount of calories believed necessary for a person working out with weights for 2 hours a day.

As it is, I don't count calories, because I follow what Dr Atkins wrote. When I get any where near my goal, I will worry about calories.

Me, too. I never wanted to count calories so never dieted. I was so happy about a diet where I only counted carbs. Sometimes I eat a huge quantity of calories, sometimes not so many. If I'm losing I don't even think about it.

I couldn't lose on that many calories. It works better for me to go by 10x what I want to weigh, although even that is high for my current thryoid dosing.

Not that I count calories. I just eat until full, which seems to happen with relatively few calories.

My goal is 135 - I weigh now 150. 10x for me would be between 1300 - 1500 calories a day. If you watch your calories do you have to cut out a lot of fat calories?

Thank you.

ROTFL! If I ate 10 x my weight in calories each day, I soon wouldn't be able to hold enough food, because I would weigh a ton!

Is right! I can only imagine what would have happened if I'd tried this at 337 pounds!

How many calories do you think you get at your current weight?

I think you may be confusing how they calculate your BMR with how many calories you should be intaking ever day. I just read somewhere the other day that bmr is 10X your body weight, add that in again (which is really 11x your body weight Doh.)

Be right back, going to see if I can find that link, there is more to it than just that.....

No, I'm eating about 75-80% of my calories from fat (well, at least I did yesterday).

Sample menu:

Breakfast:
Egg crepes with butter and raspberries

Lunch:
Hamburger patty with ketchup, pickle relish, horse radish
1/4 of an avocado

Dinner:
Big salad with avocado, olives, salmon, olive oil and rice vinegar

Dessert:
3/4 cup of coconut milk mousse with raspberries.

(I may have over-estimated the coconut milk mousse, I forgot to measure)

Last week: 1353, 1221, 1596, 1435, 1089, 1270, 1378. Food was weighed. (I have *got* to stop doing that.)

I feel like I've heard you should eat 10-12 times your goal weight in calories. I think coming up with a formula to figure out your ideal calorie intake is bull, personally... One *should* eat when hungry and stop when full. What you're eating is more important than how many calories you consume. I do usually eat 10-12 times my current weight in calories, but that's a coincidence. (My goal is 138, and if I only ate 1380 calories I would be SO hungry!!)

If we're talking goal weight, that's exactly what I'm eating. I'd love to be about 125 and that's about the max of what I eat in the course of a day, give or take a bit.

Add goal weight and it's a fairly decent rule of thumb. Otherwise, I'm with everyone else!

(Can someone point Liz and me to a 12-step program for scale-aholics? I'm going to need it after my new digital food scale comes tomorrow!)

No way I'm eating 2900 calories a day unless I can add some ice cream and a few Little Debbie cakes in there. I can't eat that much healthy food.

I guess I am just confused. As I mentioned I am 150 and goal is 135. Calories would be 1300 - 1500. When I ate low fat I ate 1200 calories. I think I would have to remove a lot of fat calories for me to be between 1300 - 1500.

I just can't get my mind around this. Thanks for helping.
