As an Italian girl, growing up we had little fast fry steaks a lot for breakfast-- Mom called them Steak Pizzaiola and did them with a lot of mozzarella and tomato sauce. However, on Atkins, minus the tomato sauce and overload of cheese, I've found that these little steaks make a fabulous Atkins induction breakfast or lunch.
You can buy fast fry steaks in your meat department at almost any grocery. They are a thin slice of steak, and usually come 2-4 in a pack.
They only take a minute or so (literally) and can be done in a variety of ways, depending on what you're in the mood for. The general cooking method, however varies slightly. They can be fried in a teaspoon of olive oil, or you can broil them. If you broil, put the shelf at the highest level, close to the heat, and keep your eyes on them, as they only take about a minute a side!
I've put a few ways to do them in here, but you can vary it up a great deal. Please feel free to add your variations here if you try them! My husband and I have them a lot!
Fast Fry Steak, Greek Style
This is a nice low carb treat for a hungry morning or a lunch.
Fast fry steak
Salt and pepper
1 small, pitted black olive, diced,
1 tbsp feta cheese.
Basically, just season your steak (go easy on the salt, as the olive and feta are fairly salty) and stick it in the broiler. After a minute, when you flip it, sprinkle it with the feta and add your diced olives. Will be done in about a minute. Beautiful and tasty! I had it this morning and it's in my My P.L.A.N. if anyone wants to check the specific calories, fat, carbs, etc.
Fast Fry Steak Southwestern
Fast Fry Steak
Salt and Pepper
Chilli Powder
Chipotle Seasoning (optional)
Sprinkling of monterey jack or cheddar cheese (optional)
Same as the Greek recipe really, just different seasoning.
Add your cheese after you've flipped the steak in the broiler. Sometimes I just add the cheese at the end and bend the steak in half so that the sprinkling of cheese melts in the middle.
Fast Fry Steak and Eggs
1 Fast fry steak
1 egg
salt and pepper
chilli powder
hot sauce
a sprinkle of your choice of cheese.
Preheat the broiler to 500F
Season your steak with salt, pepper, and chilli powder, and a splash of hot sauce if you like it zippy, and put on a piece of tinfoil on a cookie sheet.
Put a teaspoon of olive oil or a small pad of butter in your skillet and get it nice and hot. Put your steak into the broiler, and crack your egg into the skillet, try not to break the yolk. Sometimes I add a little hot sauce to the pan as well, or on top of the egg.
Flip your steak after a minute (it should already be brown on one side), and sprinkle it lightly with the cheese, while the egg is still cooking.
I like my eggs over easy, so I flip it, but you don't have to. By the time your egg is done, your steak will be too.
Serve the egg on top of the steak. Very yummy!
Enjoy all!
