Default Amazing Atkins turnaround by UK newspaper

Get your free Atkins diet book!
http://www.femail.co.uk/pages/stand...ticle_id=211621

The Mail on Sunday (a popular UK Sunday newspaper) has teamed up with the Atkins Corporation and is giving away a 96-page Essential Atkins Diet Guide with every paper today - as well as part one of The Illustrated Atkins New Diet Cookbook!

What a turnaround - both the Mail on Sunday, and it's sister daily newspaper, the Daily Mail, have long been anti-Atkins in their reporting, so it's quite amazing to see their endorsement of it now.

Here’s how you can get the most out of Atkins

It’s the diet phenomenon that everybody is talking about.

Millions have used the revolutionary Atkins method to enjoy eating lavishly, while still losing weight – including such A-list celebrities as Jennifer Aniston and Renee Zellweger.

Now you can get the most out of the world-famous diet thanks to THREE amazing Mail on Sunday giveaways. And, in a stunning newspaper first, all are OFFICIALLY endorsed by the Atkins organization.

Every copy of today’s paper includes a FREE 96-page Essential Atkins Diet Guide, packed with all the information you need to make sure you’re following it correctly.

There’s a fascinating explanation of how the diet works, plus a 4-stage programme to achieve your target weight – and maintain it – while still enjoying such treats as burgers, steaks and ice cream.

Mercifully, Atkins is not about calorie counting, eating tiny portions or giving up tasty food. Instead, it relies on controlling your intake of carbohydrates. So we’ve compiled easy-to-use ‘carb-counter’ tables listing the carbohydrate values of hundreds of foods.

Use our tables to plan your meals and those unwanted pounds will fall away easily and naturally without you having to suffer constant hunger pangs. It sounds too good to be true, but scientific studies have shown that the Atkins Nutritional Approach really does work.

The book itself is very basic - but does explain the woe (and it's various stages) quite well - and it does suggest that the reader should buy the book (DANDR) for a more detailed explanation etc.

They've also included part one of a recipe book series - recipes taken from the Atkins New Diet Cookbook - again very basic - but it's nice to see the recipes given in Imperial and metric measures rather than cups, which cause the utmost confusion at times for those of us this side of the pond.

Anyway, hopefully we'll start seeing the UK media taking a more positive view of Atkins and low carbing in general.

I would love to know why they have had a change of attack. After a years worth of "scary" low carb stories they now are advertising it why?

Money and circulation figures, I would think. Which is a cynical way of looking at it, but that's usually why these things happen with the media. If they think they can make money by jumping on the low carb bandwagon, then they will.

However, the positive slant should be good for low carbing in the UK, whatever is behind it.

As cynical as it may be, Demi, I was thinking more or less the same thing. After months of slamming Atkins and publishing articles about how harmful it is, now they enter into a partnership with Atkins Nutritionals and start promoting it?
Although it will probably be beneficial for getting the word out about low carbing (hopefully the correct way to do it), it just seems to me that the only reason they are doing this is because $$ talk and they're getting extra money from Atkins Nutritionals as well as a boost to their readership.
IMO, this comes across as very two-faced, though.

Yes, I totally agree - we've also had a very similar experience with Boots (a large chain of pharmacies in the UK). Up until recently they wouldn't sell ketostix over the counter just in case you were on that 'dreadful fad diet'. However, since January, they have been one of the official stockists of Atkins products in the UK Two-faced hypocrites indeed!
