I have had no problems with Depo. Talking to my doctor they said the only way it would effect weight loss is possibly triggering carb cravings. Depo is a pure progesterone shot, where as most BC pills are estrogen based which can screw with weight loss.
The new IUD's also release small doses of progesterone into the system. The plain ones are cheaper and I belive last a little longer, but aren't as effective as the hormonal ones.
I have had more spotting on depo since starting this WOE. It usually occures when I am almost due for my next shot. It has also cleared up now tha tI have less excess weight. One possible reason for this is when you lose weight, estrogen is released into your system. Estrogen is stored in fat cells, which is why it can be harder for overweight women to concieve and one reason they have more complications. When you lose weight the estrogen is released where it makes it's way happily around your system for a bit before leaving. Your overall estrogen levels drop the more weight you lose though. This is one reason anorexics and very lean body builders will have period changes or no period.
I talked ot my doctor about concerns the extra estrogen from weight los,s or the natural estrogens in soy, would interact with the Depo. I was told not to worry though as they had no evidence that anything like that would affect the effectiveness of the BC.
