Question Fat Fast

This is the 3rd time i'm trying Atkins after only losing 10lbs in 6 months and falling off the wagon the 2nd time after five weeks. I'm having the same problem of stalling btw 188-192lbs, the 1st and 2nd time as well. I realised this morning that i never tried the fat-fast, so I went grocery shopping and have bought everything i need to begin tomorrow. Has anyone done the fat fast and started losing again?

Be prepared to be hungry and to gain back some of what you lost during it -- I found it incredibly boring.

Why dont you do the modified fat fast or just increase your fat. I aim for high fat meals, and I try to not eat more then 1500 calories a day. 1200 is about right for me I have found.

I have never tried it personally... although I have a question... how long have you been stuck at your current weight... has it been the 6 weeks no inches lost and no lbs?? because the fat fast is for metabolically resistant people only... can be harmfull anyother way...

how long have you been on this WOL the second time around??

Thanks for your responses.

Skibunnie, My percentages are Fat 64%, Carbs 3%, Protein 33% my caloric intake is btw 1200-1500.

Rachelle, this is my 3rd attempt, 2nd week on induction-11 days (out of 14) and exactly what happened the 2nd time. I've been struggling btw 188-192lbs for 7 months. I know that you might say to complete induction, but i know it would not make any difference. I also exercise and just discovered a few months ago that i might have a thyroid problem.

It took you a long time to gain the weight, so please be patient. I know thats easier said than done. ;-)
I would first get the thyroid checked and out of the way. If it is your thyroid then the fat fast won't work well enough and you will get discouraged.
If anything I would look more towards a yeast problem first. I believe Atkins says to rule that out before trying the fat fast.

Good luck and I hope all is well healthwise and beyond.

I've done the fat fast. You do lose weight rapidly. However, I also lost a lot of hair. I don't know if it's the fat fast or what but it happened.

Also I felt really sick on it.

I would also recommend just increasing the total fraction of your fat (it's not too hard to get it above 60%) and controlling your calories.

Just my 2 cents.

I'd suggest the thyroid be tended to first. IMO the fat fast is too restrictive and dangerous to mess with. My answer after a several month stall was MORE carbs, different supplements, more exercise and TIME. Everyone's different, but yo-yo-ing off and on Atkins is a sure way to make your body freak out and not let go of the weight!! Throw the fat fast in there, and I'm afraid you might be setting yourself up for disaster.

I don't want to see you get sick, and we're all here to help you succeed!

My appointment scheduled for 10/21 with an Endrocrinologist was cancelled last week after waiting almost 3 months and now set for December. I have been losing my hair for 2 years, no longer a problem (for now), i keep it cropped and wear beautiful wigs. I have been on my weight loss journey for almost a year and a half and lost.......23lbs. I want to at least attempt the fat fast and see what happens, if nothing happens it couldn't be any harder than its been. I've been very disciplined with this, even when i went off Atkins. So no large gains but fluctuations btw 188-192lbs.

ageekott,

1. Do you know what caused your hair loss? Did you see a doctor or dermatologist about it?

2. Is the wig uncomfortable?

Is the fat fast the same as the meat fast?

No, you get your fat intake up to as high as 90% on the fat fast. You actually cannot eat any meat on it (too much protein). You eat a lot of egg yolks, mayonnaise, macadamia nuts, cream cheese . . . I was eating mayonnaise by the tablespoonful. Yes, it was disgusting as it sounds. People at work would walk in on me eating mayonnaise and I would try to laugh it off. You also have to keep your calories at 1000 per day (not hard to do as you feel sick to your stomach all the time).

But man, it worked! I lost about a pound a day and it stayed off. Hope the hair doesn't stay off as well.

Im trying to increase my fat, but beware, count calories!
I just made the cream cheese pancakes (cream cheese is 90% fat). They were great, but in one batch there is like 1100 calories! So I had to just eat one pancake, I could have ate them all!

Rhaazz, the hair loss started immediately after i had my daughter, i never had a hair loss problem before then. My wigs are very comfortable as i wear a hair net as well. When its really warm, i wear bandanas. I have a very bad habit of not seeing my doctor. The whole thyroid thing came up when i complained to my OBGYN that i wasn't losing weight and he suggested Atkins....YES!! I then said i did for 6 months and lost only 10lbs. I'm also encouraged that the fat fast worked for you. I started this morning and i'm keeping my fingers crossed.

You said this was the third time you've tried Atkins. Instead of the fat fast, why not just stick to the plan. Every time you quit and restart, the weight loss is slower. Also if you have a problem sticking to Atkins, why would you stick to a plan that is far more restrictive and leaves you hungry?

I tried the fat fast once. I only made it 4 days before I was to sick to take even another day. I lost like 5 pounds, but as soon as i resumed normal induction eating, it all came back. Through normal induction eating I lost that 5 pounds again though in the next week.
