Default I just ate...

My first avacado ever, besides guacamole. I have never been so full in my life and I only got thru half of it. But yayyyy to all the fat in it!!!! Sorry, I'm sure none of you care. Have any of you noticed that you crave things now that are on the atkins plan... maybe even some weird things?? I want to have a cream cheese omlette for dinner tonight... never would I have wanted that before.

Per fitday

1 California avocado (black skin)

26.5 g fat
12.78 carbs
3.43 g protein

for a Florida avocado (green skin)

46.57 g fat
22.47 g carb
6.02 g protein

weird that they have different values

After you subtract dietary fiber there are only about 4 carbs.

I get a sack of small ones at the store that say on the label 255 cal per fruit and 3 net carbs.

I LOVE avocados and always have. My mom makes this awesome dip with avocados mashed, creamy italian dressing, sour cream, a smidge of lemon juice, and a smidge of wortershire. I used to inhale it with chips as a child ... now I inhale it with veggies.

the green (smooth skin about the size of a large mango?) and black avocados (pebbled skin that starts off green about the size of a tennis ball) have different values because the green ones are much bigger.. also black ones are higher is good fat than the green ones..

I believe theres a thread in the recipes section that is called avocado ides too

check out WWW.AVOCADO.ORG these are 2 of the many recipes they have on their site::

I just polished off a whole avocado. I smash it onto some low carb bread, with mayonaisse, some bacon and I put lemon juice and salt on the cado.

Oh my!

Forgive my ignorance, but since I've never eaten an avacado in my life...do you cook it first? Just peel it and eat it? Eat the whole thing, skin and all? I feel like an idiot but I've really never had one!

Ok, I know about avocados, but what is a cream cheese omlet? I love omlets and I love cream cheese, so it's sounding good so far...

Don't feel silly, I didn't know what to do either. You dont' need to cook it, I just cut it open and scooped out the inside after I took out the pit.

Eat them raw baby!!!

I just cut mine in half ... stick a knife in the seed to pull it out ... pull off the skin and EAT IT!!!!

I don't think I have ever cooked on really. Always add them raw to things mashed or sliced or whatever.

I can soooooo relate to this. I have been craving boston lettuce in a BIG way.

I also crave sardines, asparagus and recently read a thread on fiddleheads that got me craving those now. I also crave eggs a lot too. I am going to make up some egg salad later from a recipe from my new LC cookbook and eat it with boston lettuce leaves.

I was *never* like this before LC.

That sounds good. Do you toast the bread first?
