I personally see artificial sweeteners just as a means to an end. I know myself that my love of sweets is to far ingrained in me after nearly two decades of being raised on very large amounts of real sugar. Thus this means I am only useing (and eating of course), artificial sweeteners to keep me on the low carb bandwagon. I have tried hard to remove them from my diet, but never got past a couple weeks without them, then would just end up binging on carbs. Maybe I am not as healthy as I could be whilst eating AS, but I sure as heck know I am a hundred times over healthier than I have ever been in my entire life regardless of that.

...and a little side note on sucralose (splenda) specifically. I have been ingesting it since 1991 since it started being put in things here in canada, and I have never had any of the symptoms of problems with it that I have ever seen listed by people online on splenda "scare sites"...

That totally makes sense. All we can do is the best that we can do.

I haven't read any of the Splenda scare sites, so I don't know what they say. However, I have allergic-type reactions to it.

I am very grateful, I don't have allegic reactions to AS. I have enough problems. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't have a sweet treat or two that is still low carb. I did fine with no sweets for a couple of days, then started craving sweets all the sudden and I didn't crave them before LCing. Perhaps I didn't crave them because if I wanted something sweet, I would just eat the high carb version of sweets, very often in the form of yogurt, pudding, or ice cream. Luckily these sweet favorites of mine are very easy to make in LC form. Tonight had the horrible craving for chocolate, I made mock chocolate milk and now I am fine. First time using Splenda at home, it gets a thumbs up.
