Default Cocoa Powder

I use cocoa powder quite frequently in many of my recipes and no, I do not want to use bar chocolate for these particualr recipes.

For a long time I used Hershey's Special Dark.

The last 2 cans of special dark I have not been satisfied with because due to the economy, Hershey has changed the quality of the ingredients being used and frankly it tastes cheap now.

I have some ScharffenBerger--a can and a half.

I'm wondering what brand of cocoa powder pepele are using---unsweetened of course.

I use Ghirardelli Premium Unsweetened Cocoa. One tablespoon is 3 g total carbohydrate of which 2 g are fiber.

The only place locally that I can find it is Super Target.

I use Dagoba baking cacao: http://www.dagobachocolate.com/

I love it! <3 I buy it at Whole Foods (I think its 9.00 or 10.00 per canister - 8 oz).

Edit: oh the carbs are same as the ghirardelli above (1 tbsp = 3g carbs, 2g fiber)

If I am getting it from the usual grocery, I get the Ghirardelli. What I like better, is what I get from Sprouts (small "grocery" - mostly organic products). They have Dutch processed unsweetened cocoa in bags in their bulk section. Pricey, but great!

I just received Dagoba in an order from IHerb. (It was $7.44 for 8 oz.) It's really good! It's replaced Ghirardelli as my favorite unsweetened cocoa powder.

By the way, the newer containers of Ghirardelli say 1 T has 3 g carbs and 1 g fiber (for 2 net carbs). The Dagoba is still 1 net carb per tablespoon.

Years ago I used to buy incredibly expensive cocoa powder from Williams Sonoma. It was about $15 for a good sized can. I can't recall the name any longer... but wow, it was awesome.

You can usually find some great fair trade baking cocoa that is just powdered cacao cut with alkali at your local health food store or food co-op. I love making coconut bark with it.

This also seems like a good option -->

http://www.amazon.com/Navitas-Natur...36883739&sr=8-2

The reviews look quite good. However, I'm not sure this could save the same purpose as baking cocoa (like the ghiradelli or hershey products mentioned above).

Anyone have any experience with this product?

I use Trader Joe's brand where I do all my shopping, so haven't really compared flavor or price lately. Interested to read all the answers here since adding it to yogurt is about my only "treat".

[B]Nestle Cocoa Powder
contains 3g of total carbohydrates, 1g of which is dietary fiber. This is equal to about 6 percent of your total recommended daily intake of fiber, and only about 1 percent of your total recommended daily intake of carbohydrates.

Rodelle Gourmet Dutch Dark Cocoa is what I picked up last time. Purdy darn yummy!
1 net carb/tbsp (3 total/2 fibre)

I've been making 'ice-cream' with it and it's so easy and delish!

I freeze dollops of cottage/ricotta cheese and chilled organic coconut milk on a plate and throw them in the freezer in ziplocks.

Pop a couple of each in the food processor, add some HWC and/or a shot of unsweetened vanilla or chocolate almond milk, cocoa, vanilla Torani/sweetner of choice and blend.

Just. Like. Ice cream.

I made some coconut oil/almond butter chocolate fudge and cut up little pieces and added them to the ice-cream the other night.

To die for!!

I recently purchased this online. Wonderful! It's my new favorite cocoa.

I bought it after reading Deezil's comments here and the strong reviews of other users at Amazon.com. It comes in a big container (24.5 oz) and the price was quite good, too.

I think that might've been what I bought at Williams Sonoma.
