How many of you out there think you would last in this WOE without splenda and or splenda products.
I've been lcing since the fall of 1996, and I bought splenda for the first time about a year and a half ago. And no, I have never in my life bought any other artificial sweetener (except for Stevia). I buy it now primarily because my husband puts it in his coffee. I occasionally make chocolate flax muffins from a recipe I found here. I bought the large bag of granular Splenda a year to a year and a half ago, and I just finished it. I ordered three DaVinci syrups in the beginning of last June, and we've got about 1/3 left of the almond and the vanilla, and about 1/2 left of the chocolate.

I should add that I don't have a sweet tooth, and Splenda has an aftertaste to me (as do all other artificial sweeteners, including stevia (although stevia has the least)). I occasionally have a square of bittersweet chocolate such as Lindt 85%, and once in a blue moon I get a craving for something more. When I do, I would rather go for a controlled portion of something with real sugar rather than more with Splenda (and I avoid corn syrup almost completely, which has a flatter taste to me than cane sugar, similar to artificial sweeteners* but without the aftertaste). If Splenda were withdrawn from the market tomorrow I'd shrug.

*Sugar alcohols do not, but they do flatten me out.

I think my reaction would be the same, as I use very little too. I have bought 3 boxes of sweetener about a year ago. The Splenda I finished off last week....and the other two (sugar twin reg and dark I think) haven't even been opened.

I agree!!! Now, it was many moons ago, but I remember cyclamates as having no aftertaste when it was available in the US. There was an ice milk available made with cyclamates and it tasted just like the "real thing". I would like to try that again, but here in the US it's not sold.

I have never been a sugar freak. I have always drank un-sweet ice tea without sweeteners. When I do have a Coke or Pepsi it is diet because I do not like the sweet syrupy taste of regular drinks. I use Splenda on the few things that do need a little sweetening, coffee, small bowl of frozen blueberries witha little cream over them. I buy a box of 50 packets every month and that is more than sufficient. Now ask me about potatoes, bread and milk, lol.
I don't feel restricted by the diet because there are so many alternative ways to fix something besides rolling it in flour. (I'm from the south, we flour everything, hehe) I have found many great recipes on the internet that even i can fix with my limited mobility.
I had no problem staying at 150 lbs before the wreck. Had been that weight for years without dieting. But I know that if I am going to reach my goal of 125 and stay there I have to find a diet plan that is not a diet. I know me, if it is restrictive I will never last, this is not. I think LC is my ticket to make this change and stick with it.

Ah, you need to take a trip north, in that case. The Canadian version of Granulated Brown Sugar Twin uses cyclamates. I used Splenda for a while, but I vastly prefer Sugar Twin - just a bit sprinkled on berries is very nice, and it's great to bake with.

I don't know if you can order it, but here's their site: Sugar Twin

Note that you want the brown, not the white - they use a different AS in the white for some reason.
Cheers from Edmonton, Alberta - Sid
