How about doing a small low-carb whey shake before you lift - maybe about 25g protein, say as you're heading out the door to get to the gym? You'll want it to have a chance to get into your system for when you're lifting, and 25g won't be enough to mess you up for the cardio later. Whey metabolizes very quickly, so this should do the trick.
