Are you talking about homemade bake mix from a recipe designed to copy the Atkins formula?
Try plugging the ingredients into Fitday or finding the nutritional info for each item and adding it separately. Time consuming, but you'd only have to go thru it once, right?
I agree with Jeannie re: cross-border shopping (we've gone together several times
). We're so close to the border that it's only a few hours to go down, hit a bunch of stores, fill up with gas and head back home again. No problems with bringing food across the border - but no alcohol, ciggies, non-food items unless you want a hassle. I get a lot of dairy down there - I don't know how much cheese costs in other parts of Canada but it's pretty pricy here (cheddar, 2 pound block, is about $9-10). I can buy a 5 pound block in Bellingham, WA, for about $13 CAD. Eggs here - $2+ per dozen, Bellingham less than a dollar a dozen.... That kind of thing.
As for crime? Like you said - the higher the population the more likelihood of crime. I wonder what the crime rate in Vancouver is compared to other major cities per capita? I'm willing to bet that it's less than others the same size....hmmm, gonna have to go look that up now
Here's an interesting site I came across:
US vs. Canada - crime stats
