I just started Curves again. I had done it several years back and then decided to move on to a bigger gym (YMCA). I wasn't doing low carb back then. Now, I'll be LC'ing and doing Curves.
I think it's a great workout, especially for beginners, because it's simple, doesn't require prior experience and has a social aspect to it that keeps many motivated to go and workout.
In my area the price is high compared to large gyms - like Gold's. However, the price is quite comparable to yoga classes (6 weeks/once a week class). If you think of it as a class vs. a gym - it's not a bad price. During their food drives, they'll wave the membership fee if you bring in a bag of food (usually in April). Many Curves have added a circuit Zumba class as well as cardio steppers for those who would like to go every day. You can pay monthly minus a yearly contract - that way - if you feel you've outgrown Curves or get bored, you can move on to a different gym/workout.
