I thought of something that makes me look more frugal than I am. Besides buying many pounds of on-sale hamburger, several months earlier I had bought 3 cases of tuna on sale. Anytime something is on sale, I buy as much of it as I can afford to. So each month we're eating food that was bought months before.

To get a more accurate monthly average, I would have to keep track of all food shopping for a year or more & average it out.

I doubt if even poorer people (we're considered poor) could manage to buy ahead that way. And storage would be difficult for many.

Now that's insane.

Wow, I don't remember that! I read and did Pritikin and in the process (I'm now convinced) forever altered my metabolism (and not for the better). Guess I was drinkin' the Koolaid. I will say that Pritikin "helped" me get to my lowest weight in my adult life. 113. Low enough that my periods stopped and people told me I was wasting away. I gained back the weight very very quickly and I'm sure in the process traded some muscle for fat. Sigh....I'd like a do-over on that, please.
