So I guess it comes down to how much elemental magnesium is in the product. 2400 mg of magnesium oxide would be excessive, but magnesium malate, not so much.

Magnesium malate is 6.5 percent magnesium. So 2400 mg of pure magnesium malate gives 156 mg of magnesium. There's so much malate in there that you almost have to wonder if there might be a therapeutic effect of the malate itself, and not just the magnesium.
