I never really cared for the fizz that much. I drank sodas when they were available when I was young, but that was really only because it was such a rare treat to have them available at all, really only a couple times a year, if that often. On the rare occasions when we had soda, it was always ginger ale, root beer, or orange soda, at least until I was a teenager, which was when I finally tasted a lemon-lime (sprite/7-up) or cola. I never really cared for the cola flavor at all, and I can't remember the last time I had any kind of soda, probably close to 20 years ago now.

So I have no idea why sodas are so addictive to some people, although I suspect it's at least partly a matter of having access to sodas on a fairly regular basis from a young age.
